Week 3,
Sound.
Please note that you should not listen to this with your earphones.
Play it off your device so that you may hear the world around you.
Let's begin by closing our eyes and taking a few breaths.
Just normal,
Simple breaths.
What does it feel like to breathe?
Let's take a few breaths.
Let's take a few breaths.
Allowing each sound to have its place.
Simply listening to every sound that is present without judgment.
Simply noticing the qualities of each sound as it appears.
I wonder how many sounds are present in this place.
Let's take a few breaths.
Allowing your attention to move from one sound to the next.
I wonder what the loudest sound is that you can hear in this place.
And what is the quietest sound?
Let's take a few breaths.
I wonder if you can sense the directions from which these sounds are coming.
Perhaps noticing sounds below you and above you.
And perhaps in every direction.
Relaxing your attention.
I wonder if perhaps you can hear all the sounds at once.
What is the music of this moment?
What does it sound like?
Allowing your attention to move from one sound to the next.
I wonder how many sounds are present in this place.
I wonder if you can hear all the sounds.
Recognizing that you are not simply witnessing the music of this place.
But that you are a part of it as well.
Perhaps finding ways to add more sound.
You might begin by simply rubbing the tips of your fingers together.
Or clapping your hands.
What about a gentle humming?
What is the song that your body can offer the world?
And what does it feel like to participate in the soundscape of this moment?
To not only hear,
But to be heard among all the beings of this place.
Returning to a sense of quietness.
I wonder if you can notice that silence has a sound all of its own.
That silence exists among all sounds resting between every vibration.
Silence.
As we come to the end of this exploration,
Take a few minutes to simply be here.
Noticing what it feels like to be in your body,
Here in this place and in this moment.
Simply noticing what it feels like to be here.
Perhaps a story will arise from the body.
And if a story does arise,
Then perhaps just noting it for later in your journal.
And in closing,
Let's take one more breath.
And whenever you're feeling ready,
Go ahead and open your eyes.
