I prepare to reflect on tolerance and I imagine myself in a beautiful grassy field,
Relaxed and peaceful,
In a very safe place and in front of me is a beautiful flowing river.
On the other side of that river exists other cultures other religions,
Other people that I consider different from myself.
Many times there is a gap between our worlds but as I sit here in this grassy field I decide right now that I am going to build a bridge between my world and their world and that bridge is made of understanding.
Let me take time to understand the stories of people.
Let me take time to listen to them.
Let me take time to ask questions.
In the state of judgment I assume I know everything I need to know about them.
In the state of understanding there is openness,
A desire to learn,
A desire to understand where they are coming from and why different cultures and races operate the way they do.
Sometimes just simply having the desire to understand people will bring to me opportunities to hear their stories and when I am willing to listen to the stories of others the walls of judgment will crumble and the bridges of tolerance will be formed and strangely enough by understanding our differences we will come to realize that at the core there is a journey that is universal and similar.
A journey that connects us all and makes us one world family.
So as I sit here right now in this beautiful grassy field I set the intention to build a bridge between my own world and the world of someone of another race or religion or culture.
I decide right now to build that bridge by understanding their stories and by remembering that to cross over that bridge into their world means that I not only learn the art of mercy but it also means that I meet the deepest need of the soul which is to feel and experience a sense of belonging.
When I do this I will have the experience that we are a family of souls on a universal journey of life.
