This meditation offers an opportunity to become mindful of our five senses. Our senses are a part of what makes us unique and special, as we each experience the world in a slightly different way from someone else. Once we have focussed on each of the five senses individually, we use affirmations to emphasize that however we experience the world through our senses is part of what makes each of us special. We discover the world around us through our senses,

Through what we are able to feel,

Smell,

Taste,

Hear and see.

But have you ever thought about how our senses and our special abilities make each of us unique?

For example,

Some of us might have a well-developed sense of hearing that gives us wonderful musical abilities.

Some of us have extra-sensitive noses that help us to create the most amazing food by combining flavors in a delicious way.

Those of us with artistic abilities might have a remarkable way of looking at the world.

Today I would like us to spend some time remembering and connecting with all of our senses.

We will connect with each of our senses one by one to help us think about what makes our own senses unique and special.

To begin,

I would like you to close your eyes and sit in a comfortable position.

Try to get as comfortable as possible so that you will be able to sit quietly for a while.

Now let's take three deep breaths together to relax.

Take a long slow breath in and slowly breathe out again.

Take another long slow breath in and breathe slowly out again.

Take a last long slow breath in and breathe slowly out again.

As you are sitting there,

I would like you to notice where your body is touching something.

Notice how the floor feels where it is touching your body.

Is it hard or soft?

Cold or warm?

Can you feel where one part of your body is touching another part of you?

Where are your hands resting?

Are your fingers touching each other?

Are your feet touching the ground?

Find a few moments being completely focused on your sense of touch and the sensations of touch that your skin is making you aware of.

Before we let go of the sense of touch,

Thank your skin for everything that it is making you aware of today.

Now let's take a deep breath in and out again.

I would like you to shift your attention to anything that you are able to smell.

Can you smell the clothes that you are wearing or your own skin or hair?

See if you can smell something from further away.

Perhaps you can smell something from outside or perhaps something from the kitchen.

Spend a few moments being completely focused on your sense of smell and the aromas that your nose is making you aware of.

Before we let go of the sense of smell,

Thank your nose for everything that it is making you aware of today.

Let's take a deep breath in and out again.

Now let go of everything that you can smell and let's notice any flavours that you are able to taste in your mouth right now.

Perhaps you can still taste the last thing that you ate.

What did it taste like?

Was it sweet or salty?

Sour or bitter?

Spend a few moments being completely focused on your sense of taste and the flavours that your tongue is making you aware of.

Before we let go of the sense of taste,

Thank your tongue for everything that it is making you aware of today.

Take a deep breath in and out again.

I would like you to shift your attention from your sense of taste and to connect with what you are hearing.

Spend a few moments listening to the music.

Are there perhaps other sounds that you can hear close to you?

Perhaps you can hear some far away sounds from outside?

Spend a few moments being completely focused on your sense of hearing and the sounds that your ears are making you aware of.

Before we let go of the sense of hearing,

Thank your ears for everything that they are making you aware of today.

Let's take a deep breath in and out again.

Now I would like you to keep your eyes closed.

Notice what you can see behind your closed eyelids.

Is it just dark or can you see light even though your eyes are closed?

Can you see any colours swirling around?

Spend a few moments being completely focused on your sense of sight and the images and colours that your eyes are making you aware of.

Before we let go of the sense of sight,

Thank your eyes for everything that they are making you aware of today.

Let's take a deep breath in and out again.

Now that we have spent some time thinking about each of our senses and what they make us aware of,

I would like you to repeat the following affirmations after me.

You are welcome to say them out loud or if you are more comfortable repeating them side to side,

Silently to yourself,

That is ok too.

I see perfectly in my own special way.

I see perfectly in my own special way.

I hear perfectly in my own special way.

I hear perfectly in my own special way.

I taste perfectly in my own special way.

I taste perfectly in my own special way.

I smell perfectly in my own special way.

I smell perfectly in my own special way.

I feel perfectly in my own special way.

I feel perfectly in my own special way.

Remember that your senses are there to help you connect with and enjoy the world around you.

All you need to do to appreciate them even more is to pay attention to what you are seeing,

Hearing,

Tasting,

Smelling,

And feeling at any particular moment.

Let's take three last deep breaths together before we open our eyes.

Take a long,

Slow breath in and slowly breathe out again.

Shhh.

Take another long,

Slow breath in and breathe slowly out again.

Shhh.

Shhh.

Take a last long,

Slow breath in and breathe slowly out again.

Shhh.

Slowly start to move your fingers and your toes to wake your body up again.

If you like,

You can move your head slowly from side to side.

When you are ready,

You can open your eyes.

Alright.
