A body scan meditation for children. This meditation is ideal for relaxing and reviving young bodies and minds and can be used on its own, or at the end of a children's yoga class. During the meditation, the listener is guided to gradually relax their entire body until they feel light and relaxed enough to float on a cloud. Today I would like to take you along with me to float among the clouds for a little while.

This exercise is especially lovely to do if your body is feeling tired or when you need to relax.

I would like you to lie down on your back in a comfortable position.

Straighten your arms and your legs and allow your feet to fall to the sides.

Turn the palms of your hands so that they are facing up to the sky.

Close your eyes and try to keep your body as still as you can throughout this exercise.

The only movements that you feel will be in your imagination.

Now we are going to start by taking three long slow breaths together.

Take a deep breath in and out again.

Take a deep breath in and out again.

And one last time,

Breathe slowly in and out again.

I would like you to continue breathing slowly and calmly at your own pace.

We are now going to focus on the different parts of our bodies so that we can become light enough to float on a cloud.

I want you to imagine a beautiful silver ball of light hanging just above your face.

The light is pure and gentle and is going to help you to become light as a cloud for a little while.

As you breathe in,

You feel the silver light enter your body through your nose and spread all the way to your feet and the tips of your toes.

The light makes your toes feel tingly and light.

It spreads through your feet,

Lifting them gently off the floor.

As the light flows to your legs,

They become lighter and lighter.

The lower part of your legs start floating in the air.

The light moves to your upper legs and they start to gently float as well.

Now the light moves under your bottom,

Up your back and to your shoulders.

The light moves through your belly and your chest,

Gently making your whole body float.

The light moves down your arms,

Towards your hands and right through to the tips of your fingers.

Your fingers start to tingle as well as they gently float up into the air.

Now your hands are becoming lighter and your arms start to float.

The beautiful soft light moves down your neck and into your head,

Making your neck and head feel light and floaty.

Your whole body is now filled with the beautiful silver light.

You are feeling light and relaxed and you are floating a little way above the ground.

Above you,

A small cloud has just started floating down towards you from the sky.

The cloud floats down to meet you and when it reaches you,

It moves under you to gently support your entire body.

You feel your body sink gently into the cloud as it slowly starts to lift you up into the sky.

You can feel the sun shining softly down on you as you float up past the highest trees.

You float further up past the highest mountain until you can only see the blue sky above you and the soft clouds around you.

What a calm and lovely place this is.

You feel completely safe and supported by the soft cloud under your body.

You can now spend some time here in the clouds while you relax completely and just float for a while.

Come here.

I'm sure that you have had a lovely time floating amongst the clouds but now the time has come to slowly float back home.

The cloud beneath you is slowly taking you lower and lower so that you can reach the place where you started safe and sound.

As you float down you see a few curious birds fly past you.

You spot the top of a mountain in the distance.

Then you notice a beautiful kite swooping by.

You look down to see the tops of trees.

Slowly and gently the small cloud is taking you all the way down to where you started.

Then you feel the ground beneath you as the cloud lays you down gently.

It hovers around you for a moment before making its way back up into the sky.

Start to move your fingers and your toes together very lightly.

Gently move your head to the one side.

Now bring your head slowly back to the center and gently over to the other side.

Move your head back to the center and when you are ready you can slowly sit up and open your eyes.
