This is a longer, revised version of my "Firefly Meditation For Peaceful Sleep". In this meditation, I focus on the special, beautiful things that we are only able to see when it gets dark. I also introduce the friendly and comforting fireflies looking after us while we sleep and sending us only good dreams. Slow breathing exercises are utilised to help little ones drift off to a peaceful sleep.

Is it getting dark outside?

That means it is bedtime.

When it is dark it helps us to sleep better.

There are also many wonderful things to discover when it gets dark at night.

When we can't see the things we are used to seeing during the day,

We are able to see some very special things that we otherwise wouldn't notice.

For instance,

You can only see the moon and stars in the sky when it is dark outside.

That doesn't mean that they are not there during the day.

It just means that the sun shines so brightly during the day that we cannot see the softer light from the stars and moon.

When it gets dark,

It helps us to see in a different way.

Sometimes we need a little bit of darkness to see some very special things.

Today I would like to tell you about fireflies.

Have you ever seen one?

A firefly is a tiny beetle with a light in his belly.

A firefly's light is so small that you can only see it when it is dark at night.

Fireflies come out at night to watch over children while they sleep.

They help us to have good dreams.

Close your eyes and I will show you.

You can call a firefly to watch over you by making it sound like the wind through trees.

We can do this by just breathing slowly.

Take a deep breath in while keeping your eyes closed.

Feel your belly push out while you breathe in.

Now let's breathe out slowly making the sound of the wind.

We need to gather enough wind in our belly so we can call the fireflies to watch over us.

Let's do that again.

Breathe in and feel your belly push out as much as you can.

Now slowly out again while we make the sound together.

Feel your body become more and more relaxed every time you breathe.

Let's keep calling those fireflies to watch over us.

Breathe in slowly.

Fill your whole belly with air.

Now slowly out like the wind through the trees.

You are now completely relaxed.

The fireflies are almost here.

Keep your eyes closed and breathe with me three more times.

Breathe in and slowly out.

Breathe in and slowly out.

Breathe in and slowly out.

You are now very relaxed and almost ready to fall asleep.

I can see the first tiny,

Tiny lights twinkle around you.

The fireflies are here to watch over you.

We mustn't move or they might be scared away.

We can lie here for a little while and enjoy the music while the fireflies look after us.

You are safe and warm.

The fireflies will look after you and send you only good dreams.

Let's imagine what those good dreams might be.

The fireflies are looking after you,

Keeping you safe.

Sweet dreams little one.
