All of us as humans will experience pain at some point in our lives.
Whether that is emotional pain or physical pain.
It is something we cannot completely avoid.
Whether you're experiencing physical or emotional pain.
The experience can be one of Separation.
And disconnection.
Disconnection from the natural world.
From the relationships in our lives.
And most importantly,
A disconnection from ourselves.
This practice is an invitation to find connection.
Even when you're experiencing discomfort.
To tap back into the universal current.
That flows through and connects us all.
And to remember that you are not alone.
You're deeply supported by the world around you.
Even if sometimes it doesn't feel that way.
So when you're ready.
Find a comfortable position.
Allow your eyes to close.
Or soften your gaze.
Let your body rest back into the surface beneath you.
Allowing your legs to become a little heavier.
Letting go of any tension through your arms allowing yourself to be held.
And begin to notice the space around your body.
And the space within your body.
Even though our bodies can seem so solid.
There is actually an incredible amount of space within us.
And when we experience discomfort,
Our bodies can sometimes feel.
.
.
Denser.
Tighter.
More contracted than they actually are.
So just begin to notice the space.
The space between your eyes.
The space behind your eyes.
The space in your throat.
The space behind your heart.
In front of your heart the space between your hips.
Perhaps noticing the space between your fingers.
Space between your toes Becoming aware of all the space within and around your body.
And now begin to notice the flow of your breath.
Movement of your breath in and out of your chest.
This simple movement that happens almost entirely.
Without your conscious effort.
You're not driving your breath.
You're being breathed.
Let yourself experience this perspective for a moment.
That flow of energy that moves through you.
That breathes you to life.
It courses through your veins.
It digests your food,
It pumps your blood.
Moves energy throughout your whole body.
Without you needing to consciously do anything.
This energy is life.
And it is the same energy.
The same life force.
Flows through all living beings.
That connects us all.
That breathes all beings into life.
And now I invite you to imagine all the people around the world.
Are experiencing some form of discomfort right now.
Physical pain,
Emotional pain.
Grief,
Fear,
Loneliness.
Anxiety,
Sickness,
Whatever their experience may be.
Imagine them as little sparks of light scattered across the world.
Thousands,
Perhaps millions of people.
All experiencing their own version of being human.
You're not alone in your experience.
There are others who know what it is to hurt.
Others who know what it is to feel uncomfortable in their bodies.
Others who know what it is to feel lost,
Afraid,
Overwhelmed or disconnected.
Let yourself see these other people.
And let your heart go out to them.
With compassion,
With tenderness.
With solidarity.
Now imagine that same invisible energy.
Flowing in and out of your body.
At the same time as it flows through all of these other beings.
All of you connected by this invisible current.
All of you sharing in the experience of being alive.
And as you breathe imagine this energy moving through your body.
Flowing into the places that feel tight.
Stagnant.
Or uncomfortable.
Giving the energy permission to move,
To flow,
To circulate.
And if you notice an area that feels stagnant You might imagine this current moving through it.
Gently sweeping,
Moving.
Creating space.
Giving it permission to soften and return to a state of flow.
And as this energy flows through you.
Imagine your body beginning to glow.
With a warm gentle light.
Perhaps beginning as a tiny spark somewhere within you.
And slowly expanding.
Moving through your body filling you with warmth and at the same time imagine those other beings around the world also beginning to glow.
Each one carrying their own little light each one connected to the same current.
And together these little lights begin to appear across the world.
Like stars in the night sky.
Thousands of little points of light.
Each one experiencing their own life.
Their own pain,
Their own joy.
Darn story.
And yet none of them truly alone.
Just stay with this image for a few more breaths.
Feeling yourself as one small part.
Of this vast interconnected web of life.
Breathing.
Being breathed.
Connected.
Supported.
And then gently bring your awareness back to the edges of your body.
Once again noticing the space around you.
The space within you.
Noticing the surface beneath you.
The weight of your body.
Being helped.
Taking a few deeper breaths.
Noticing how you feel in this moment.
Be connected.
And remember,
You're not alone.
There is life moving through you.
There is life moving all around you.
Even in moments of pain or discomfort.
You're still connected.
You're still part of this vast living world.
When you're ready gently bringing some movement back into your body weakening your fingers and toes.
And slowly,
Gently opening your eyes.
Taking this sense of connection with you.
As you continue with your day.
Thank you for joining me.
