Welcome to Life,

Lessons and Laughter with your host Glenn Ambrose.

Hello everyone.

Welcome to the podcast.

Giggle,

Giggle,

Laugh,

Laugh.

What was that?

That was random.

Okay.

I have no idea what is going to come out of my mouth most of the time.

Have you not figured this out yet?

Wow.

Okay.

What did I say?

Giggle,

Giggle,

Laugh,

Laugh,

Laugh.

I would have thought that I would have said snicker,

Snicker.

But I guess I went with the laugh,

Laugh.

I wish we made t-shirts for the show.

Giggle,

Giggle,

Laugh,

Laugh.

Yeah.

Maybe that'll be my new catchphrase.

Well,

Anyway,

We're going to talk about what's right with the world and it sure as heck was not that introduction.

Or was it?

Or was it?

Ooh.

Baby.

Let's move on.

All right.

Anyhoo.

So,

Yeah.

What's right with the world?

So what I am doing is starting a new podcast.

Gasp,

Gasp.

An additional podcast.

Yes.

Not a replacement.

Right.

And now I feel like I'm kind of inserting words like the old Batman show where it says like boom pow.

I'm going like gasp,

Laugh.

And people that are like in their 20s listening to this probably don't even know what I'm talking about.

They do.

We get it.

Oh,

Okay.

Good.

Yeah,

Because nostalgia is cool.

Anyhoo.

Dave just rolled his eyes at me when I said we get it.

By the time you're listening to this,

I'm not in my 20s anymore.

Yeah.

So,

What's right with the world is what we are talking about.

And because obviously there is tons of attention on what's wrong with the world.

And actually what spawned this was I was listening to a book by Lynn Twist and in the last chapter,

I mean I've always thought this way too,

But it really jumped out at me.

In the last chapter,

She started spouting off a bunch of things that were right with the world and things that are improving,

Which like I said,

I always felt that way.

Well,

Not always.

In the last 14 years,

I've felt that way,

That things are getting better and there's a lot of good happening.

But she just ripped out about,

I don't know,

Man,

15,

20 things or something that is right with the world that doesn't get our attention.

People aren't talking about it.

We're not noticing it.

It's not in the forefront of a lot of people's minds.

And as I was listening to this,

I'm like,

Yes,

Yeah,

Yeah,

Absolutely.

Oh,

That's an interesting one.

And after she did that,

I was just driving and I was like,

Man,

I should put more focus on that.

The great love project that I do is focused about putting energy towards things that you love and bringing more love into this world because everything is energy.

So if we put more energy into sharing the things that we love,

Like on social media,

And we consciously know that we're sharing them because we love them and just putting that out in the world,

That's putting attention to things we love and putting attention to love.

So love will expand.

If we put our attention on something negative,

Then that thing negative is going to expand.

So it's like,

Look at the war on drugs in the United States.

How's that going?

As soon as we declare war on something,

It expands because we're putting our attention on it.

So it's the war on drugs.

Well,

Drugs expand because it's getting more attention.

The universe doesn't understand that.

We go,

No,

We're saying we want less drugs.

So what we need—and Mother Teresa knew this when she got invited to an anti-war rally.

And she said,

No,

I won't go,

But if you have a pro-peace rally,

I'll go.

Because it doesn't matter if you put the word anti in front of it,

You're still putting energy to the subject,

Which would be war in that case.

So if you have a pro-peace rally,

Then you're putting energy towards peace.

So whatever we put energy towards expands because everything is energy in this world.

So if we put our attention on what's right with the world,

Then more things will be right with the world.

Instead of putting all our focus on what's wrong with the world and then wondering why those things expand,

Why there's more,

Well,

It's because it's getting our attention.

So there.

Take that,

Ben.

What do you mean take that?

I agree with you.

You're not showing me up.

Well,

That's a fun way to end my little rant.

Okay.

Your opening monologue.

So what we're going to try to do with the podcast is once a week for 10 minutes talk about something positive that's happening in the world,

Some sort of uplifting story.

And we're going to try to go in depth with one or two stories just to shed some light on some of the things that you maybe should be hearing more about.

Right.

And we're going to release those on Wednesdays.

So it's right in the middle of the week.

You can kind of get that uplifting boost to help you get through the rest of the week and refocus your mind.

Hopefully if you're listening to these podcasts,

You're doing something on the weekend to care for yourself and to work on your state of mind.

And then Wednesday,

You can kind of get that extra little boost of what's right in the world and just putting it out there.

I Googled what's right in the world and there was one movie that had been put out several years ago which looked like it was interesting but I was surprised at how little information was out there about this.

If you're looking for what's right in the world,

There's just so little attention put on that.

So we're going to try to start doing our part and just putting some attention on that and sharing it with you guys.

And just so you can get that little boost and you can keep things.

If you hear,

I mean seriously,

I bet you if without this podcast,

I mean if you're just looking at regular media,

I mean how often do you hear things that are right with the world?

I think some of the news stations are trying to throw some things out there a little bit here and there but they're few and far between compared to the negative stuff.

It's not even on the charts.

So if you just start putting your attention on what's right in the world,

Hearing just one or two things every week and then all of a sudden somebody looks at you and says,

Oh this world is just falling apart.

Well,

Not necessarily.

I just heard about this and I just heard about that and I just heard about this and I just heard about that.

We're completely unaware of the good things that are happening and then we wonder why we're all walking around in this doom and gloom mentality.

It's because that's what we're looking at.

JAY As you said,

The two ideas are sort of interconnected.

BRIAN KENNY Right.

Putting attention or energy on them and having them expand.

JAY So four updates on this.

We're going to be using the Great Love Project Facebook page and every day there will be some sort of new story posted on the Great Love Project page with the hashtag,

What's right with the world.

BRIAN KENNY So then you can get your daily dose on top of your weekly dose with the brief podcasts that we're doing.

JAY And those will be daily stories that are great.

I think the first one was a groom on his wedding day jumped into a river to save a boy who was drowning.

That's a fantastic news story that unfortunately has been overshadowed by a ton of really awful things that take precedent in this fear inducing 24-hour news cycle.

BRIAN KENNY I understand that we need to be prepared for storms coming and we've just had a difficult storm season.

There's been a lot of tragedy and I understand that we have to get notice and prepare for this type of stuff.

But I mean we were supposed to get hit with a tropical storm,

Nothing majorly dangerous,

Not a hurricane or anything.

But up in Rhode Island we're supposed to get hit with this thing and for days it was talking about and people literally laughed at me because two people laughed at me because like a day or two before I knew nothing about it because I don't watch the news.

It was like how do you not know this?

You need to pay attention to the weather.

I was like why?

Like I just heard about it now.

That's kind of my mentality.

If something's happening I'll hear about it in time.

If there was a hurricane,

I heard about the tropical storm like a day or two ahead of time.

If there was a hurricane,

I probably would have heard about it four days ahead of time.

But when that storm came up,

Nothing.

I literally went for a jog in the middle of when it was supposed to hit the hardest because it missed us so much.

But the way they were,

And again I'm not saying that we shouldn't be informed.

A lot of people would feel comfortable being more informed than myself which I completely understand and we should prepare for these storms and all that stuff.

But it's 24-7 fear,

Just inducing and just jamming it down our throats because the more fearful we are,

The more we'll watch.

And the more we watch,

Then the more commercials get paid.

It's a machine.

And we feed it.

We feed it with our fear.

I don't feel it's the television station's problem.

It's our problem.

If we didn't feed off of fear,

Then they wouldn't be showing it because if they showed it,

We wouldn't be watching.

So that's what brings me to this project is we have to stop living in just immersed in fear all the time and feeding off of it.

You know,

Yes,

We can prepare,

But don't feed the fear of it by just inundating yourself with negativity day after day after day after day in preparation for it.

That does nothing.

Putting a board on your window does something.

Getting water does something.

Living in fear glued to the TV for three days because it might be raining really hard does nothing.

You know,

That doesn't help the situation.

So to bring in these regular doses of positivity,

It will actually help change our minds and our thinking to where we start seeking positivity more.

And if we start seeking positivity more,

We're going to find it more.

Whatever you look for,

You'll find.

That's what we're doing in hopes of this project.

And the big things,

The big negative news will find its way to you.

Oh yeah.

And there are things that you should be made aware of that would be better.

It's beneficial for everyone to be made aware of them.

And we will,

When those things happen,

Try to find the good news that's coming out of them.

The good news within them.

And it's always good within situations.

Mainly,

I'll just generalize here.

As a general rule,

You'll find the good in how people react to the bad.

You know,

Whenever there's a tragedy,

There are people rallying around other people and connecting.

You know,

And personally,

Like,

You know,

I'll see a lot of people going,

What's going on with this world?

All the natural disasters,

All the shootings.

Oh my God,

What's happening?

Why is this happening to us?

It's like,

Well,

I don't think that the negativity is the end.

Like I,

You know,

To me,

The negativity,

It doesn't have any point.

That's why we're going like,

Well,

What's the point to all these shootings?

What's the point to these natural disasters?

Well,

There isn't one.

You know,

That's why we can't find it.

But if,

What if you looked for the good in it?

You know,

So the good is the people rallying around.

What if we were trying to be taught that we should love one another and rally around each other?

Maybe that's why some of this stuff is happening.

You know?

And then,

So if we continue rallying around and feed that,

Feed that sense of community,

Feed that sense of love,

Feed that being there for one another,

You know,

Maybe these things would stop.

And even if they don't stop,

I don't know,

I'm not God,

I don't know how this stuff works.

But even if they don't stop,

We're still going to end up with a better community,

Rallying around each other,

Helping each other when difficult things happen.

And that's really important in this world.

You know,

Whether we're having tragedies or whether we're not having tragedies,

What we need to be working towards and leaning into is a world where we all help each other and we all love each other and we all get the reality that we are one.

You know,

When you're looking at these tragedies and you see,

You know,

Literally some of these tragedies,

You see the world rallying around,

Not just the country or the state.

Sometimes the whole world rallies around and acts as one unit to support those who are struggling.

That's beautiful.

You know,

That's beautiful and we need to put more attention on that.

Because last I knew,

We can't control when there's a tsunami.

So if we can't control it,

We can't control our reaction to it.

And the better our reactions are to it,

The better community and the better world we're going to live in.

And also those moments end up bringing out the best in so many people.

Oh yeah.

That that needs to be what the focus is.

Because bad things will happen.

Yes.

And the inspiring thing is to look at all of the people who rush to help.

We have control.

And this is,

It's the same in the microcosm as it is in the macrocosm.

In our own lives,

We can't always control what happens to us,

But we can control our reaction to it.

And it's the same way in the macrocosm.

You know,

Maybe we can't control when a hurricane hits,

But we can control how we react to it as a group.

You know,

And that's the important thing is rallying around each other.

I mean,

Right now,

You know,

Just for positive news stories on something that happened recently,

The Puerto Rico crisis,

Which is horrible.

And you know,

Do what you can if you can to help with that.

There is a story right now on CNN that Daddy Yankee,

Who,

You know,

Some people might know who he is,

Some people might not have any idea who he is.

He helped feed 9000 people while on his trip to Puerto Rico.

Stephen Colbert and Nick Kroll put together a campaign to donate $1000 per celebrities tweeting a certain thing from a fund that's based off of Ben & Jerry's ice cream to send.

It's currently at like tens of thousands of dollars to send help.

Tons of people have done that.

So there's tons of celebrities that are doing positive things that could get noticed.

And then also there's news of like,

You know,

A six year old is collecting stuffed animals to send to comfort hurricane victims.

See that's what's right with the world.

Yeah.

And it does.

There is a lot right in the world,

You know.

And one of the speaking of that type of stuff,

What was the hurricane that hit over in Texas?

Harvey?

Harvey,

Yeah.

And JJ Watt from the Houston NFL team goes to,

You know,

Sets a goal to raise $200,

000.

And last I saw,

He had raised over $37 million.

He went to raise $200,

000 and he raised over $37 million.

That's insane.

You know,

That's what's right in the world is,

You know,

We are learning to reach out and help one another.

And I think that,

You know,

I think with these storms that we're getting better at it.

Thank God.

You know,

It's not to say that I want more storms.

I don't.

But,

You know,

It does seem like people are understanding that we need to help one another in a way that hasn't been done before.

You know,

And a lot of times technology gets a bad rap,

But technology is running this stuff.

You know,

Our world is shrinking.

If there was people,

You know,

On the other side of the country,

Like I actually got a message from somebody over in,

I don't know exactly where it was,

In the India area on the other side of the world that messaged me on Facebook and said,

I believe you're in the United States.

I've heard about all the storms.

God bless you and your family.

I hope you're all safe.

I mean,

You know,

That was so kind.

People are reaching out all over the world and sending good thoughts,

Sending money,

Sending help,

Just,

You know.

So that is something good that technology can do in our world.

So,

You know,

Technology is bonding us in a way that's never been seen before.

So,

You know,

It's not always bad.

It can be used for a lot of good too.

There's a,

I guess really the point of this is that there is positive news happening at all times from all places.

And every time you hear something negative,

There is a counterbalance to that.

You know,

Depending on how you look at certain things,

When there's a negative news story,

There is generally speaking,

Probably a few positive news stories that could be focused on people's reaction to that.

Right.

I mean,

What do we,

You know,

What type of existence do we want to live?

Like,

You know,

Let's get to it.

We're not going to live in a world where nothing ever goes,

Nothing ever happens that we don't think should happen,

Like storms and bad things.

Like to expect to live in a world where no bad things happen,

There's no religion that promises that.

There's no evidence that we would ever have that.

It's just not going to happen.

We live in a world where bad things happen.

So what existence do we want to have within that world?

You know,

Do we want to walk around going gloom and doom all the time?

Because it's,

Our mentality is based off what we feed it.

You know,

This has been proven scientifically.

Like if you constantly are inundated with negativity,

Negativity,

Negativity,

You're going to be negative.

Like it's just,

You are.

You cannot just completely be just inundated with negativity all the time and then walk around in this happy mood.

Like why would you?

You know,

So it's trying to counterbalance that and try trying to bring in that positivity,

That positivity,

That positivity.

And then we can live.

I mean,

I'd like to live a happy existence while I'm here.

So I need to inundate myself with as much happy stuff as possible.

And that's where the solution lies.

You know,

It's like,

Oh,

No,

We need to focus on the negativity.

Well,

Why?

If we focus on the negative aspects of what's going on,

There is no solution that lies in that.

It doesn't help anybody.

Walking around going,

Oh,

My God,

Isn't this horrible?

Can you believe this happened?

This is so unfair.

This is tragic.

All that helps zero.

But if you start looking for the positive and go,

Okay,

You know,

What,

What's going,

What good is coming out of this?

Oh,

This person started a fund.

Oh,

Okay,

Well,

I can donate to that fund or,

Hey,

They're sending people,

They're sending nurses down to that area.

I'm a nurse,

I could take off,

You know,

A few days and go down and help or I could,

You know,

Whatever,

I could send stuffed animals down.

A six-year-old can,

Maybe I can,

You know,

Like,

There's pets in this area,

In those areas that,

That are going through,

You know,

Displaced from their homes and stuff.

How can you help the pets?

But if you look into what people are doing to help,

Which is positivity,

Then you can get in on the solution of these things,

You know,

And then you can add energy to the solution and that,

Then you can walk around with more positivity,

You know,

That,

That,

And hope,

And hope,

Because if you're focusing on just the negative,

Then everything seems hopeless.

Absolutely.

And it's,

It's just,

It's just not,

It's tough living in a world like that,

You know.

It's,

I think I get,

I get passionate about this because,

You know,

I kind of live two lives.

I live 20 years out there consumed with the negativity and kind of being around,

You know,

Walking around like the walking dead,

Just miserable,

Angry,

Irritable,

Focused on the negative all the time.

And then,

You know,

I was blessed enough to wake up and then live,

You know,

14,

15 years or something now awake.

And it's,

I would never go back to that.

Never.

You know,

It's,

It's like that is a punishment that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy,

Walking around the way I used to walk around.

And I was ignorant of it at the time.

I didn't know that I was walking around that miserable,

That unhappy.

But when I came out of it and looked back at it,

It gave me chills the way that I spent 20 years,

You know.

So to know that there's another way of being that's possible and it's really not as hard as we thought it was,

You know,

It's not always easy,

But it's not as hard as we think it is.

It's just a matter of putting our attention on good things.

That's a wonderful start,

You know,

On love,

On positivity,

On solution,

Things like that.

You know,

Putting our attention on those things and those things start to expand in our lives and our lives get better.

You know,

A lot of times people say like,

You know,

A lot of my clients or a lot of people I meet are struggling with self-esteem issues.

So we go,

Okay,

Well,

And most of them know it.

Oh my God,

Yes,

I have very low self-esteem.

How can I raise my self-esteem?

Do esteemable things.

That's how.

You know,

Do things that make you love yourself.

You know,

What is a kind act that you can do for yourself?

Take a bath?

Okay,

Take a bath.

Get yourself flowers on the way home from work?

Okay,

Get yourself flowers on the way home from work.

Why?

Because those are acts of love towards yourself.

And if you do esteemable acts,

Your self-esteem will rise.

So this is what we're trying to do.

We're trying to raise everybody's,

You know,

Self-esteem really by doing acts of love and putting our attention on positivity.

So that is our project.

We're going to do it.

We're going to save the world.

Let's end this with a really awesome positive news story.

Yeah,

Let's do that.

Okay.

Ready?

Go.

All right.

We recently discovered that in a very surprising discovery that big sections of the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia is coming back after two-thirds of it had been considered dead.

That had been severely bleached in the past few years.

And 14 coral reefs are now showing signs of life and producing eggs.

They're finding corals that are showing early signs of reproductive development,

Really visible eggs that can be seen to the naked eye.

Nature is healing itself.

It's very surprising,

As previous studies have shown a two to three year delay.

It means that they have enough energy and that they've recovered and that the symbiosis and they have enough energy to do this.

It was considered,

You know,

Probably gone forever.

There you go.

So that's,

You know,

That's a good story because we're just talking in this podcast a lot about the natural disasters.

Well here's an example of natural healing.

You know,

The earth is healing itself.

So good news.

That's what's right in the world.

Yes.

That's awesome.

So this podcast,

The new podcast,

What's Right With The World,

Is going to start coming out in November on Wednesdays.

And we're going to start the day before Thanksgiving.

Right.

What better day.

Than a day of Thanksgiving to work around.

So yeah,

We're going to start releasing it then.

Keep your eyes and ears open and check it out.

Bring some positivity into your life.

And we might release the first episode as well on this podcast feed as well with a little thing to tell people to go over to the new one.

So it'll be its own separate feed.

You won't be able to get it with life lessons and laughter.

Right.

So subscribe to that one as well.

So subscribe to that one.

And again,

It'll come to you every Wednesday.

And it'll be under 10 minutes.

So it'll be an easy,

Quick listen.

Yeah.

A little on your drive to work or while you're getting ready.

And go ahead and like the Facebook page for the Great Love Project,

Which is where,

What will be the home base for this project.

And if you have positive news stories or anything that's positive that you would like to share,

Just use the hashtag,

What's right with the world.

And we would love to hear about them.

We would love to see them,

You know,

Anything.

And that's the whole point of the Great Love Project also.

So if you have something that you love that you want to share,

It's all about putting that energy out.

Putting it out there.

And getting the focus on it.

If you love,

You know,

Share that with us.

Use the hashtag,

The Great Love Project.

And we'll look at them and then we'll talk about them on the show.

Absolutely.

So thanks everyone for listening.

And keep your eyes peeled for the new stuff coming out.

It's exciting.

It's good stuff.

And we will talk at you soon.

And yet again another awesome podcast. I understand. I do not watch or read the news either. I do not want to live in fear. No time for fear. I spent too many years in fear. Like you mentioned the walking dead. I would rather wear my courage glasses and keep moving forward. You also said the term, "live awake" and Sarah Blondin has a podcast called that. She is on insight timer. I love that term and reminded of her. She's great too. Thanks!
