Welcome to Life,

Lessons,

And Laughter with your host Glenn Ambrose.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Life,

Lessons,

And Laughter.

Today we are talking about Moving On.

Moving On.

Moving on up.

Onward and upward.

Yes.

There was the last song on I think the first ever Rascal Flats CD.

The final song on the album is called Moving On.

That's weird because I was just at a little family get together yesterday and they were talking about Rascal Flats.

That's weird because I have not talked about Rascal Flats in years.

Nor I.

But yeah.

Great.

Wonderful singers.

Yeah.

So I,

But I always,

The lyrics of that song are like,

I've done all I could and blah blah blah.

Like you know and I was like as a high schooler,

I was like yeah.

You got to know when it's the right time to move on with something.

Yeah.

And no one to hold them,

No one to fold them as Kenny Rogers says.

Kenny Rogers.

We're going to,

Is Kenny Rogers considered a country singer?

I believe so.

Would you consider Kenny Rogers a country singer?

I would.

Yeah.

Alright.

We're going to get as many country artists into this as possible.

Maybe it's a preparation for me moving on down south.

There you go.

Moving to sunny FLA.

A little bit past the,

You're moving a little bit past the Florida-Georgia line.

Oh,

There he goes.

Oh man.

I'm going to have Dave put a ring shot,

A rim shot in in post.

Nice.

So yeah,

We're talking about moving on and this has come up a lot lately about how to know when it's time to move on.

And which is,

You know,

Good timing because I am moving to Florida in a couple of weeks.

So I'm moving on down there.

Yeah.

By the time you guys hear this,

Glenn currently lives in Florida.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I'll be down there by then.

Yeah.

So,

So I guess I'll just jump in from that perspective.

Like how did I know when it was time to move?

And this time,

You know,

It's not always obvious.

This time I kind of felt it was,

And it wasn't just me,

Which I think is helpful in making it clearer when it's time to move on,

Because you can always see stuff easier when it's somebody else,

You know.

So,

So the fact that my son was very involved with this decision was helpful.

I always,

I thought I'd move back down to Florida,

But I always figured he'd finish high school up here and then I'd probably move,

You know.

And that's how I always said,

I'll probably move when he graduates high school.

And I always had the feeling that I would,

But I wasn't really making any plans.

I didn't have it set in stone.

And then when we went down for a vacation for two weeks,

Stayed with my friends and my friend's wife,

The first day was,

You know,

If he's going to go to college down here,

You could,

If he has a year residency,

If he did his senior year down here of high school,

He could get in-state rates.

I was like,

Oh yeah,

That's interesting.

And I mentioned it to my son and he was like,

Yeah,

I'm not,

I'm not leaving my friends.

That's not happening.

Like,

Well,

Whatever,

Just a thought.

So then he goes off for,

You know,

We hung out for two weeks and he spent a lot of time with their daughter and her boyfriend and stuff and talking about it and looking at schools and what it's going to look like when he went to college down there.

And all of a sudden,

You know,

The last day we were there,

He's like,

I want to do my senior year here.

I was like,

What?

Really?

So then we talked it out over the next week or two and it really did seem like a good decision for him.

And since I had always wanted to move,

I was like,

Yeah,

Fine with me.

I don't mind moving down there a year earlier than I planned.

So it kind of was easy this time because the thought was already there.

When should I do it?

And then when the circumstances aligned,

It was just a beautiful flow.

And,

You know,

I've experienced that when I moved up from Florida,

It was very similar because my son was already in Rhode Island and I had had my awakenings and got my stuff together.

And I was trying to figure out when to move up here to be a father and raise him.

And all of a sudden,

One day I got fired at my job for doing something that I could actually do,

Like which was using my cell phone and nobody else could use it.

But because of my job,

I could.

My boss caught me and fired me for it,

Even though I was the only one that was able to use my cell phone.

So like I probably could have gone into upper management and said and gotten my job back.

But I was just like,

Oh,

OK,

Cool.

My first thought was like,

Oh,

Now is when I move up to Rhode Island.

I was wondering when I should go.

This is obviously the time this is my sign,

You know.

And it was funny because my my boss's boss was there when I got fired and he saw me take it so well.

And I called him to ask him a question like a half an hour later.

And he was like,

Glanna,

You really OK?

Like I've never seen anybody handle a firing that well.

I was like,

Yeah,

I'm fine.

It's just I'm going.

You know,

I've been trying to figure out when I should go up to Rhode Island to be with my son.

And obviously,

The time is now.

So thank you.

And he was like,

Oh,

OK,

So there's a reason why.

I think he thought I was like suppressing something or a crazy person.

Yeah,

Like I think you thought I was suppressing something and was going to come back like,

You know,

And shoot up the place or something.

So so like to find out that there was really a reason for my happiness,

I think relaxed.

But but that's you know,

So that's one way.

I mean,

If if we're if we're I if our eyes are open and we're looking for the signs and we just we have an idea of what we want to do.

And then we're like,

Oh,

You know,

When's when when should I do this?

Put out the question,

Put it out there to the universe.

We're being supported by the universe,

You know.

So it's like,

When should this happen?

When should I do this?

And then all of a sudden things start falling into place.

You go,

Oh,

I guess now I guess now is when it should happen,

You know.

And that's how you know.

That's how you know when to move on.

And I started there because it's.

You know what?

The most recent situation in my life,

That's how it unfolded.

So that is one way.

But there's definitely more than one way.

Ben's about to say something.

For those of you who can't see him.

No,

I'm good.

OK.

No,

No.

He faked me out.

Carry carry on.

So other ways,

You know,

Sometimes it's more difficult with.

Well,

With any situation like jobs sometimes because it's more fearful relationships.

The more fear there is around something,

Usually the more difficult it is to see because we have to wade through that that emotion and that fear.

So it's talking things out is a huge benefit with this.

You know,

Just making lists of pros and cons can help you see because it's a lot of times.

What we have to do is just look at it factually without all the emotion.

And usually we'll see that it's time and then we can bring in some of the emotion in a more controlled way and say,

Does it feel right?

You know,

But I just did that with somebody last week.

A friend of mine called up and they were talking about a job.

They weren't sure if it was time to move on to another opportunity that was being presented to them.

Because oftentimes in our spiritual walk,

We'll get fearful that we're running from something,

You know,

And that's something we want to avoid.

We don't want to run from anything or leap into something too quickly.

Or,

You know,

Sometimes it looks too good to be true.

And we have all these fears around it.

So,

I mean,

With this person I was talking to was kind of simple.

I was just they kind of gave me the overview.

So I was like,

OK,

So let's kind of do a pros and cons list.

You said this,

This,

This,

This,

This,

This and this were the pros of the new job.

And what's the cons?

I don't think there are any.

OK.

So the old job,

You said it was negative because of this.

What's the pros to the current job?

I don't think there really are any.

OK.

So you've got a whole list of pros to the new job and no cons.

And you have a big con at the present job and no pros.

You know,

Conversation's over.

It's pretty obvious.

You know,

Sometimes the universe makes it that easy.

Sometimes it's not quite that easy.

We need to look a little bit deeper.

But so,

So,

You know,

When I looked at it like that and I helped her look at it like that,

The decision was pretty,

Pretty easy to make.

Well,

Why didn't she see that if it was so easy and so clear,

Why didn't she see it?

That's the emotion.

That's the fear around it.

You know,

So just because like we can't see the answer doesn't mean there isn't an obvious one.

You know,

Sometimes we just have to learn to work through that,

Talk through it with somebody else.

You know,

That's a lot of what I do as a life coach,

Talk through things,

Shine the light in all the corners.

Did I miss something?

Is there,

You know,

Is there something I'm overlooking?

And get other people's perspectives on it.

And be careful who you choose for other people's perspectives.

Because there's some people that,

You know,

You could be like,

Well,

I'm making,

You know,

$12 an hour and I can't pay my rent and somebody just offered me $500,

000 a year to do nothing.

And they'd be scared because you're losing the stability of the $12 an hour job.

You know,

It's like,

So be careful who you ask.

You don't want to allow their fear to bleed into your life and your decisions.

So that is a perfect segue into what my next question was,

Which is what,

How big of a role do intentions play in moving on both your intentions and outside intentions?

Intentions is basically everything.

So,

Which really kind of,

If you think about it,

It's really relaxing to understand that your intentions are the thing that's important and not the actual decision making itself.

Sometimes it's very clear,

Like I just went over to make the right decision.

Sometimes it's not so clear.

But,

And then it gets,

Then we get jammed up.

But if we look underneath and understand that it's our intention,

What's the purpose that we are here?

Just the general purpose.

The general purpose is for us to become better versions of ourselves,

To open up to who we truly are,

To expand,

To experience more joy and happiness.

So if that's our whole purpose for our complete existence really,

For the most part,

And we base our intentions in alignment with that,

We will never make the wrong decision in any situation.

Because the universe has to support us in that.

Now,

If we make our decisions based out of fear and concern and lack and things like that,

Then that takes us away from becoming bigger and more open versions of ourselves.

And the universe cannot support that.

And what I mean by the universe supporting and not supporting is there's a natural feedback.

It's not punishment and it's not a gift.

It's just natural consequences.

When we do something that is healthy for us,

We feel good.

Literally,

We experience joy and happiness and things go well for us when our intentions are heading in the directions of love and expansion.

When we're heading in the direction of fear and lack and contraction,

Then we just naturally feel bad.

We experience bad feelings and what we'll call consequences.

So if I have a choice between,

You know,

We'll use the job thing,

If I say,

And this can be any decision,

Relationships,

Whatever,

But in a job situation,

Okay,

Well,

I'm going to take this job because it has more money,

And I don't really think I'm going to like what I'm doing,

But it has more money,

And I'm so scared that I don't have enough that I'm just going to use that as my sole decision making.

And then you go into that job that you are going to experience a problem there because you're coming from a place of lack.

You're coming from a place of fear.

You're coming from a place that I am not loved,

I am not cared for,

Things are not okay,

And I need to make decisions based on money,

Not on what's best for me.

Yep.

And so something,

You're either not going,

You're either going to not like your job or you're going to,

It's not going to last long,

Or something,

You can't find happiness at the end of an unhappy road.

I say this all the time to people because of this podcast,

Really.

You cannot operate from a place of lack.

No.

You can't make good decisions out of the feeling that something is less than,

You know what I mean?

You can't do it,

Which is a version of fear,

A sense of lack is a fear of not having what you need.

So it's like riding a horse.

And I live on a horse farm,

But I don't ride horses.

But I have been on one once or twice in my life.

And I think it's an analogy anybody can understand.

When you're riding a horse,

You cannot do it well when you're fearful because everything is tight and you're trying to control the horse and pull and the horse can feel that.

And it's like you don't have good control over a horse.

But if you're relaxed and confident,

Then you're going to be a better horse rider.

You can just tell the horse where to go.

The horse is feeding off your energy.

It can tell you know what's supposed to be happening and what you want to happen.

And it's going to pay attention and listen to you and do what you want it to.

But if you're scared,

Just hanging on for dear life,

Filled with fear,

That horse is probably going to do whatever it wants to do and feed off of your fear.

And it's not going to go well.

So it's the same thing.

We can't function from fear and expect to live a happy,

Successful life.

But if we make our decisions based out of love and what's going to bring us more joy and happiness,

Then we will be supported.

And I mean,

Like with the job situation,

I've,

You know,

Sometimes there are no bad decisions when you're moving towards your happiness.

Because like let's just say for the sake of argument,

You take a job that isn't technically the right job for you.

But your intention was I want to move towards my happiness and doing what's going to bring me joy.

And I think that this is a good step in that direction.

If you step in that direction and it's not where you're supposed to be,

The universe is just going to line up other opportunities coming off of where you are to get you closer to where you want to be.

Right.

Because it behooves the universe to get you to where you want to be.

Because if you're more joyful,

The universe is more joyful because you are a part of it.

So I love when we bring up like the personal experiences anecdotes for you for describing this.

So a job metaphor and the universe lining things up for you.

Right.

So when we met,

You were a personal trainer.

Right.

Who had been doing some life coaching.

Yes.

But not a ton.

Yet you were mainly a full time trainer.

Right.

And at some point pretty quickly you moved on.

Right.

And you switched it.

And if it was 90-10 training to life coaching,

It quickly became 80-20 life coaching.

And it's fun and we're going to talk about this in the next episode that that kind of transition and that moving on period has been documented on this podcast.

Yeah.

Because you got your own place.

You got your own place of business,

Which was you lived above it and you were able to personal train and do life coaching.

And it was like half and a half split.

And it was great.

But at some point you decided to move on and let go of the personal training.

Right.

And it was,

You know,

When I got back into personal training because I had done it for many years in Florida and then I moved up to Rhode Island and I didn't do a real good job at following my bliss.

I just like I had been so irresponsible for so many years that after I woke up,

One of my main focuses was being responsible and taking care of my son and establishing myself up here.

And I just get jobs,

More money focused,

And I was very unhappy with them.

You know,

So and I could only make it three years at each job without completely losing my crap,

You know,

In that environment.

So I was like,

OK,

This is not working.

I went through three,

Two jobs.

Yeah,

I think I went through two jobs,

Three years each.

And I was like,

I cannot do this type of stuff.

I really need to follow my bliss.

I need to,

You know,

Walk in what I'm talking about here.

So I was like,

Well,

I don't know how I can just become a life coach and pay my bills.

So,

You know,

What about personal training?

It's a better atmosphere.

I enjoy doing it.

I can I can kind of implement my life coaching into it to some degree and stuff like that.

So I was like,

Yeah,

That that'll be a good place for me to go every day and earn some income in a healthier atmosphere than the offices I was working in and stuff.

So so I got back into it and I knew that it was a stepping stone.

I knew that it was just a stepping stone to get me back into following my bliss life coaching.

And that's where my my focus stayed on.

So I got my got certified life coaching and I,

You know,

Started expanding the business.

And then,

Yeah,

Then I had then that grew into the opportunity to open my own space.

So I did.

And then over a year or two,

It did shift dramatically where I could I was doing mostly life coaching so I could let go of the personal training,

You know,

Thank it for being that stepping stone.

That did give me a happy,

Enjoyable way to make a living while I was working towards life coaching.

Right.

And you noticed the pebbles,

Right?

So like something that you the breadcrumbs is what you always told Dave.

You noticed the universe putting the breadcrumbs out in front of you.

And,

You know,

I didn't know I didn't know I was going to get a space like I didn't know it was time to make that jump.

I didn't know it was time to move on to like I didn't know when the time was right to make that jump into my own place.

But it got presented to me.

Right.

And then you also but when you decided to let go of personal training completely,

You had this this I want a dog came up.

Right.

Yeah.

And that's how yeah,

That's how it started.

And yeah,

You pay attention to science because the universe will guide you.

So what it did is it started pulling on my heartstrings that I wanted a dog.

So and I couldn't have a dog at the place that I was staying at.

So then it forced me to really look at my business model because I was like,

OK,

This is a really good space to do the business that I have to do the personal training to do the events that I have spiritual events that I had going on as well as life coaching where I was.

It was a perfect space.

It's like if I'm going to move out of this place,

I need to revisit what I'm doing in my business.

Is it time to let the personal training go now?

And I was like,

That's when I looked at it.

I was like,

Oh,

Yeah,

It is.

Is it do I want to continue doing the events?

Oh,

No,

I don't.

I don't want to be an event planner.

It takes too much energy of me doing not what I don't want to do.

So once I looked at that,

I was like,

Oh,

I can downsize.

You know,

And then then I was going to move into a place which looked perfect.

And even though I was going to drop my personal training,

I was going to hang on like maybe train you and one or two other people because I had a big enough space.

And then the universe went,

No,

You don't get that space seven days before I was supposed to move in.

Oh,

Yeah,

I forgot about the universe was like,

Glenn,

You don't want to do personal training.

Right.

Why are you going to keep your personal training stuff and continue doing personal training?

So it pulled that place for me.

And then the next place I found was just way too small.

I could not do personal training,

But had a perfect little therapist office in the back.

Right.

It was perfect spot for me to do life coaching,

But no room to do personal training.

And I was like,

OK,

Well,

Thank you.

Thank you for,

You know,

Steering me in this direction.

But a lot of the only reason I saw that type of stuff was because my eyes were open.

You know,

When when that house fell through that I was supposed to move in seven days later,

It was my first thought was,

Oh,

There must be something better.

I didn't know why I didn't even think about the personal training until probably a couple of days later.

But I just knew that it was in my highest good that I didn't move into that place,

Because otherwise the universe would have had me move into that place.

So it's it's that following the breadcrumbs,

Like you said,

You know,

Just and knowing that everything is is working for you.

It's that's one thing that I've noticed.

And I've talked with a few people about a few things,

As I mentioned,

All in alignment with this podcast.

And another thing that came up that I see a lot of people doing is they don't go for what they want because they they allow the people around them to generalize.

And sometimes they start generalizing themselves.

People whenever we generalize about anything,

I'm generalizing about this,

Whenever we generalize about anything,

Be careful.

Because a lot of times that's when we're trying to talk ourselves out of things because of fear.

So people will be like,

Oh,

Well,

You know,

You can't you can't move.

You can't rent a house because there aren't houses in that price range.

You can't rent an apartment because there are no price rent rent apartments in that price range in that area.

You can't get don't get that don't get that degree in college because there's no jobs in that field.

There's not many jobs.

You know,

There's hardly any jobs there.

And it's people generalize about all this stuff all the time.

And,

You know,

My way of looking at it is I just go,

Well,

Is there one right?

Because that's all I need.

Like,

I don't need a large percentage of apartments in my price range.

I need one.

I don't need I don't need 50 percent of the housing market to be in my price range.

All I need is one because I can only live in one house at a time.

The jobs,

There aren't many.

It's OK.

I don't need many.

I only need one job.

That's all I need,

You know,

And people so people come from this place of lack and fear all the time and they talk themselves right out of doing things.

It's if it's right for you and you're passionate about it and it's what you want,

Then it'll work out for you.

If it's going to make you more of yourself,

Then the universe will support you in it.

Right.

And in the words of Rascal Flatts,

At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me.

And I know that there's no guarantees,

But I'm not alone.

We are not alone.

I'm moving on.

It's this is so tough.

I really want to make fun of you for just bringing that back up.

But I can't because it really was in alignment with what we're talking about.

I liked the lyrics and I was like,

What will work?

Something something might work.

I was going to go with there comes a time in everyone's life when all you can see are the years passing by.

But if I could get Dave to just do a cover of this and put it on the end of the episode,

He won't do it.

But so well,

Yeah.

So intention is everything when you understand that the universe is going to support you when you're making a choice that is that is in your highest good and is going to move you forward.

Yeah.

And if your intentions are there,

Even if let's just say for the sake of argument,

You label as the step that you took to to move in in the direction of your happiness.

Let's say that particular step wasn't the perfect step.

It's OK.

The universe is going to line up,

You know,

Other options right off of where you are right then.

And it's going to work out.

It's just that's what it's about.

And it's funny because my uncle was talking about this yesterday at the family get together.

It's about walking in the direction of it's not about picking the exact right thing.

Just walk in a direction of what brings you joy and other doors will open.

And as you walk that path,

You'll see you'll see more opportunities.

And then maybe you might break left or maybe you might break right and go,

No,

This now I'm starting to get off track.

This doesn't bring me more joy.

So then you break left again.

And that's that's how you find joy and fulfillment is just walking in a direction of it to the best of your ability.

And if you want help walking on that path,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Might I suggest contact Glen Ambrose,

Thank you! I’ve been wanting to change jobs/careers but I’m stuck on what it will look like and trying to plan every little detail. This was a great reminder that I need to walk in the direction of my dreams and watch the path unfold.
