In the desert, there are times when it pleads for a storm to come. To fall and replenish its thirst. Dave Hoover and I produced this musical meditation to represent the gathering of the clouds over the beckoning desert below, begging for rain and finally receiving it. Quenching its thirst and bringing life to all that lives there. It begins with Dave using a bow on an Appalachian mountain dulcimer, then I enter with piano. As the clouds get heavier, the music grows in intensity, until there is a buzz in the air and the guzheng plays the melody of simple raindrops falling. As rain truly begins, the piano melodies grow in complexity. The desert floor now darkened by the clouds overhead until they burst. As rain pours down, new streams and rivers flow and the piano drives their direction. The dulcimer returns with a calming melody that stretches across the canyon. As the cloud part and depart, light and color return in bold strokes and the desert begins to grow, renewed.
