I want to talk about how we can reimagine what purpose and meaning actually mean.
Because I think for so long we've been conditioned to hunt for purpose,
As if it were like a hidden treasure buried somewhere in the external world.
Because we're told that purpose is found in a career perhaps,
Or a relationship,
Legacy,
A specific set of actions.
And what that actually does is it creates a subtle underlying tension,
A feeling that until we find it,
Our lives are somehow incomplete or lacking in depth,
Superficial.
But I want to posit that when we wake up to the true nature of our existence,
We will realize that purpose isn't a thing we do or a role we occupy.
But more like this natural fragrance,
This inevitable outcome of a peaceful inner reality.
The illusion of the world suggests that meaning is a property of objects and events.
So we think,
If I get that job,
I will feel purposeful.
Or if I help that person,
I will find meaning in my life.
Through the understanding of mind,
Consciousness and thought,
We see that actually that's backwards.
Meaning doesn't live in a job,
In the person or the event.
For me,
Meaning is a quality of consciousness projected onto the world through the filter of our thinking.
When our minds are cluttered with the noise of seeking,
We feel disconnected from our innate wellbeing.
And in that state,
Even the most noble activities,
Let's call them that,
Will feel hollow,
Superficial.
But when we drop into the quietude of our true inner self,
You know,
That divine unlimited space within,
Wellbeing is what remains.
When you live from a state of inner beauty,
Peaceful thoughts,
Then purpose becomes an outcome.
Think of a lighthouse as an example.
The lighthouse doesn't strive and struggle to be purposeful,
Does it?
It simply stands there in its integrity,
Shines its light.
And because it's shining,
Ships find their way.
So the purpose,
Which is guiding the ships,
Is a natural consequence of the lighthouse simply being what it is.
So when you're settled in your own innate health and higher consciousness,
A simple walk becomes this purposeful communion with life.
Conversation becomes a purposeful exchange of divine energy.
Let's say a professional task you're doing,
It becomes a purposeful expression of creative mind.
The external world doesn't change,
But because your inner lens is clear and radiant,
Everything you touch seems to be infused with significance and meaning.
You aren't doing purpose,
You're radiating it.
So how do we activate this on a daily basis?
How do we move from the struggle to find to the freedom to be?
First of all,
Notice the seeking energy.
When you feel a sense of lack or frantic need to be useful,
Just pause.
Recognize it's like a temporary weather pattern of thought.
You don't need to fix the thought.
You just need to see it for what it is.
It's an illusion masking your underlying peace.
And then return to the vertical dimension.
In any moment of stress,
Shift your attention from the horizontal,
Which for me is the world of doing and results,
To the vertical,
Which is the depth of your own being.
Remember that you are the divine within,
Connected to the infinite source of mind.
Thirdly,
Follow the feeling of beauty.
What do I mean by this?
I mean,
Act on the thoughts that feel beautiful.
When a quiet,
Warm,
Or insightful thought arises from your intuition,
Just follow it.
Because those thoughts are like the whispers of your soul.
And when you act from that space,
Your actions will naturally be purposeful,
Helpful to others without you even trying.
And then lastly,
To refer back to the lighthouse metaphor,
Throughout the day,
Just ask yourself,
Am I trying to find meaning in this moment?
Or am I bringing the meaning of my own peaceful presence to this moment?
As we ascend into this higher level of consciousness,
We realize that we're not humans searching for a divine purpose.
We are the divine experiencing itself through a human form.
Our only true task is to remain awake to the source of our own wellbeing.
And when we do that,
This illusion of the world loses its grip.
We no longer need the world to give us meaning because we've realized that we are the meaning.
We are the light through which the world becomes visible,
Purposeful,
And profoundly beautiful.
