Welcome!

There's something particularly magical about August.

The fullness of summer,

The memories gathered,

And that golden quality of light that seems to hold both abundance and gentle transition.

And even if you're listening to this track in a different month,

I trust you'll find an inherent vitality and warmth within you as we intentionally cultivate joy.

I invite you to find a comfortable position,

Either sitting with your spine naturally upright or lying down in a way that feels supportive and restful.

Let yourself arrive fully in this moment,

Knowing that the next few minutes are a gift you're giving to yourself.

Let's begin by connecting with your breath.

Take a gentle inhale through your nose and release it softly through your mouth or your nose if that's better.

Another breath in,

Feeling your ribcage expand.

And letting it flow out naturally.

One more time,

Breathing in presence and possibility.

And exhaling any urgency or tension from your day.

Now just feel the weight of your body being held by whatever surface supports you.

Become aware of any sounds around you,

Letting them be part of this moment without needing to change or analyze them.

Now I'd like to share with you an inspiring thought from the philosopher Blaise Pascal who wrote that we should always keep something beautiful in our mind.

Always keep something beautiful in your mind.

Today we're going to cultivate that beauty,

That joy that lives within you and all around you.

At times it may feel like it but joy is not a luxury.

It's essential nourishment for your emotional balance and vitality.

It's ointment for your spirit and fuel for your resilience.

In your imagination,

I invite you to step outside into the most beautiful garden you can envision.

Perhaps it's a place you visited before or one that emerges from your deepest longing for beauty.

This is your garden of joy,

Lush and alive in the golden light of August.

As you enter this garden,

Notice the path beneath your feet.

Perhaps smooth stones warmed by the sun or soft earth that gives slightly with each step.

Look around and see the abundance that surrounds you.

Flowers in their late summer glory,

Leaves still full and green,

Fruits ripening on branches.

Begin to walk slowly along the path,

Letting your senses drink in this beauty.

Notice a flower that catches your eye and pause beside it.

You may like to lean in gently and breathe in its fragrance.

Letting the sweetness fill your nostrils and travel through your whole being.

Feel how the simple act of receiving beauty begins to open something inside you.

It may just be a subtle release,

A softening of your shoulders,

Of your belly,

Of your hands.

Continue walking and take in the textures around you.

If you like,

You can run your fingers along the soft petals of a rose or touch the bark of a tree.

Feel the rough stone of a garden wall or the delicate leaves of herbs growing beside the path.

Let your sense of touch awaken to the textures.

As you walk deeper into this garden,

You may feel the gentle breeze moving across your skin.

It carries with it the scents of earth and flowers,

The whispers of leaves,

The promise of evening's approach,

The fragrance of flowers.

Feel free to let this breeze touch your face,

Your arms,

Reminding you that you're part of this living,

Breathing world.

Now pause in a particularly beautiful spot in your garden.

Look up and see the sun beginning its gentle descent,

Painting the sky in soft golds and embers.

Feel the warm caress of this golden sunlight on your face.

See if you can simply receive this gift.

As you stand in this moment of beauty,

Begin to notice what's happening in your body.

Joy isn't just a thought or a feeling,

It's a full body experience.

Notice if there's a lightness in your chest,

A gentle expansion around your heart.

Maybe there's a tingling in your arms or hands or a soft warmth spreading through your belly.

Let's zoom in on this sensation of joy some more,

Bringing your attention to your face.

Notice if there's a softness there,

Perhaps the beginning of a smile.

Feel into your shoulders,

Are they dropping slightly,

Releasing into this moment of beauty?

Notice your chest and heart area.

Joy often feels like an opening here,

A melting,

A gentle vibration of aliveness.

Breathe into this space and let it expand with each inhale.

Now feel into your arms and hands.

Joy can create a tingling sensation.

Let your hands be soft and receptive,

Ready to give and receive the beauty around you.

Bring your attention to your belly,

Your core now.

This is where joy often lives as a warm golden energy.

Imagine this warmth like honey spreading through your center,

Sweet and nourishing.

Let it radiate outward through your whole body.

Feel into your legs and feet,

Still standing on this garden path.

Notice how joy can create a sense of being rooted and alive at the same time.

You belong to this earth and this earth's beauty belongs to you.

And bring to mind a moment of wonder from your current day or maybe from your past week.

A simple pleasure that's brought light to your days.

Maybe it was a fresh lemonade this morning,

A walk along a river in the sun or a night out with a friend.

Feel this memory in your body and let gratitude and joy mingle together in your heart.

Remember Pascal's wisdom.

Always keep something beautiful in your mind.

And of course,

You can always return to this garden any time you need to reconnect with joy,

With aliveness.

Now begin to slowly walk back along the garden path,

Carrying this sense of joy with you.

And when you're ready,

You may begin to bring your awareness back to your physical surroundings.

Feel your body where it's resting.

Hear the sounds around you.

And then take a deep nourishing breath in.

And exhale softly.

And you may like to wiggle your fingers and toes.

Stretch gently if that feels good.

And when you're ready,

Slowly open your eyes.

Thank you for taking this garden walk with me.

And may you experience an abundance of joyful moments.
