Connect to your highest, deepest wisdom with this meditation to call the teacher within you. To do that, we’ll use the image of a teacher — a guide, a mentor, someone you find truly inspiring and that will help you see the goodness within you. Inspired by the six preliminaries to meditation as defined by Je Tsongkappa (1357–1419) in the Great Bok on the Steps of the Path.

Hi,

This is Javier.

In today's practice,

I'll be guiding you through a focus meditation to help you connect with your highest,

Deepest wisdom.

To do that,

We'll use the image of a teacher,

A guide,

A mentor,

Someone you find truly inspiring and that will help you see the goodness within you.

You can think of meditation as a tool to focus your mind.

When you focus your mind,

You're able to observe its inner workings and recognize that it has the unlimited potential to interpret anything and experience it as the highest thing,

Including yourself.

To begin,

Arrange the space around you,

Make it feel special,

Free from distractions.

Find a comfortable position that supports stillness,

A long,

Elegant spine.

To withdraw,

Begin to lower your eyelids,

Settling into a natural rhythm of your breath.

With every exhale,

The world around you fading away.

With every exhale,

Releasing any tension in your body,

Relaxing into the pose.

Connect with the sensation of the breath at the tip of the nose,

Noticing the air coming in,

Air coming out,

Just observing without judgment.

As you start to settle your body and your mind,

Think about its potential,

Its infinite possibility towards bliss and set an intention for today's practice.

In that stillness,

Paint a beautiful paradise in your mind for you to sit on.

Take a moment to make out all the details and fill the space with beauty.

You could have the poetry of the northern lights dancing on a winter sky or the delicate scent of a blossoming flower at the break of dawn.

You can get creative.

And then,

From the depths of your heart,

Conjure up the image of your guide.

Imagine them seated across from you,

Knee to knee,

Hearts beating in unison,

Eyes brimming with love.

What's one quality of theirs that truly inspires you?

Let your heart melt and offer them something that's hard for you to give away,

Some stunning gift for them.

As they accept with gratitude,

Reveal to them something that's no longer serving you,

Something that you might be holding on to.

With your next exhale,

Let that go away and feel the lightness that comes with it.

Now look into your mind for something that you can truly rejoice about,

Some stunning thing you did recently,

Something kind that you said.

Share it with your guide and see them smile.

Having amplified that goodness,

Ask them to show you something that you cannot see yet.

Ask them to stay close to you,

To keep teaching you,

Whispering in your ears.

And as they say yes,

Watch them shrink to the size of a precious snowflake.

They rise and travel in an arc until they come to rest a few inches above the crown of your head.

Feel their presence there.

Slowly invite them in,

Sense them descend along your spine until they find a nest at the very cord of your heart.

All their knowledge,

All their kindness,

All their good qualities are now in this perfect place.

With every heartbeat,

Feel that goodness filling the entirety of your body,

Always available within you.

And as that goodness grows,

Give it all away to every other sentient being.

May they find their inner wisdom.

May they realize the potential of their mind.

Slowly return your awareness to your body,

Still for a second,

And notice what might feel different because your mind has shifted.

Start inviting some movement,

And when you're ready,

You may open your eyes again.
