Practical Tips There are lots of ideas that can help you stay with your eating guidelines.

Let's discuss some of them.

First and foremost,

Drink a lot of water.

You need to drink a minimum of 8 8-ounce glasses of water each day.

Your body uses up to 10 glasses a day to function.

And remember that you need to drink an additional 8 ounces of water for each 25 pounds you are overweight.

Most foods are more than 50% water.

So when you feel hungry,

It may really be a glass of water you are craving.

If you find yourself feeling hungry between meals,

Try water first.

When it is inappropriate for you to be thinking about food,

But it's on your mind,

Start a project that keeps your hands busy.

This way it will be impossible for you to eat.

Make sure to be busy at the times you are most tempted by food.

Start your meals on luncheon rather than dinner plates.

That's about how much food is usually appropriate anyway.

Sit at a table when eating.

Reading or watching television while eating can distract you to the point where you lose track of how much you have eaten and you will end up not having been there for the experience.

This tends to result in eating again soon.

Put down your fork or sandwich between bites.

It will lengthen the time it takes for you to eat and therefore allow you to eat less before feeling full.

It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to get the message that you are full once you have started eating.

So eating slowly definitely helps.

Cut down on salad dressing by mixing the salad and dressing in a bowl first rather than putting it on top of the greens.

Always remove the skin from chicken before cooking.

Remove the fat from steaks and chops.

Break the fried food habit.

Never eat when you aren't hungry and eat a meal approximately every four hours while you are awake.

But stop eating four hours before you go to bed.
