Being Tired and Working on Weight Loss While working on weight loss,
Most of us feel okay about how we handle food during the day.
But as soon as we walk in the kitchen door after work,
Trouble starts.
We find ourselves heading straight for the refrigerator and eating whatever we can find.
This behavior stems from the commonly held belief that eating will alleviate tiredness as well as having a legitimate need to eat at that time of day.
The way to solve this problem is to deal with being tired before tackling eating.
If there is a long time span between lunch and dinner,
Be sure to have a snack during the mid-afternoon.
This will help you feel a bit more energetic when arriving home.
When you get home,
Try entering via a different door.
This will help you break the habit chain of wanting to eat as soon as you come in.
If at all possible,
Avoid going into the kitchen until it's time to start dinner.
The only food item you should go to the kitchen for during this time is something to drink.
For many of us,
There needs to be a time of transition between our work selves and our home selves.
We are usually functioning at a fast pace during the day that is not required or particularly productive for life at home.
Without the transition period,
We find ourselves looking for ways to continue at the fast pace.
And usually this involves eating.
So plan on taking a few minutes to sit down with your feet up to relax or lie on the bed with your eyes closed.
If you have only one child,
Let him or her cuddle with you.
If you have more than one,
Suggest they play together while you rest.
Do this even if you have only 10 minutes.
Any time at all will help.
After this,
Change into something you associate with relaxation.
Then if you want,
Put a stick of gum into your mouth and start preparing dinner.
If you must taste,
Take the gum out and then put it back in as soon as you're finished with the necessary tasting.
The most important thing to remember is to not go near the kitchen until you are relaxed,
Have made the transition from work to home,
And feel in control.
