This it my ecstatic poetic tribute to the self-care practice of writing Morning Pages, a journaling process created by Julia Cameron, the author of The Artist's Way. Personally, this practice has given me so much that I was inspired one day to write a poem about it. I hope it inspires you to pick up the practice. It's quite simple: first thing in the morning, write 3 pages non-stop. Whether it's full sentences, short phrases, notes to self, rants or randomness, it doesn't matter. It can be complete nonsense, as long as you write 3 pages worth. The idea is to clear the clutter from your mind so that you can start your day with clarity, and your creative inspiration has room to bubble to the surface. Enjoy!

A Tribute to Morning Pages by Ruby Hernandez I have some thoughts to get out Maybe,

Perhaps it's true Some rants,

Some hurts,

Some feelings blue A wish,

A dream,

A humble recall A dance of words to start the ball Rolling on this day,

This week,

This month Something to give me encouragement and oomph!

Gumption Some gratitudes,

Not platitudes Affirmations and declarations,

Check!

I wouldn't have guessed it,

Not even dared set it But with Morning Pages I increase my faith In myself and in the world I build up my confidence With every scribbled word Sometimes they come like a herd of animals Sometimes they come one strained phrase at a time No rhyme or reason at all I embrace this practice This nurturing and listening to my soul I acknowledge how I feel And sometimes set some goals When I skip it I feel cursed To blindly wander through my day Disconnected from self And unable to sense the way When I show up though It feels like a parade inside My inner artist child is welcomed She no longer has to hide This is what matters This is the key The opening up to and welcoming all of the parts of me
