This mantra is very simple but very effective in getting rid of tensions, and it makes use of our breathing to achieve a meditative state. 'So Ham' (or 'So Hum') means 'I am That,' ‘I am one with the universe and all of creation.' It represents the connection between man and the universe. We’ll practice this mantra with an exercise. So, find a peaceful space and take a few minutes to yourself. Sit in a comfortable position that allows you to keep your spine straight and turn off your phone.

Yoga is an ancient system of philosophy from India and what makes it special is that it is a practical philosophy that uses specific practices to achieve balance within ourselves and with the external world.

Man is one of these practices.

We can achieve balance because,

According to yoga,

Man has a deep connection with the universe.

Our goal is to become aware of this connection and become one with the universe.

Whenever we're breathing,

We're repeating a mantra that represents this connection.

The mantra,

So Hum.

Which means I am that.

I am one with the universe and all of creation.

We'll practice this mantra with an exercise.

Let's begin by finding a comfortable position that allows us to keep our spine straight.

Keep the body relaxed and focus on the mantra.

First let's focus on our breathing.

Inhale and out through the nose only.

Take slow breaths.

Regular breaths.

As we inhale,

The fresh air brings us energy.

Let's picture it as a glowing flow that brings us well-being.

As we exhale,

Let's picture that air as a dull,

Grey flow that brings out with it everything that we do not want in us.

Toxins in the body,

Tensions in the mind,

Our sorrows and our thoughts.

Let's keep doing this exercise for a moment.

Focusing on inhalation and exhalation.

Inhale and out through the nose only.

Now that we've taken awareness of our breathing,

We can start repeating the mantra.

Inhale and mentally repeat,

So inhale and mentally repeat,

Hum.

So hum.

So hum.

So hum.

I am part of the universal energy,

Of the ultimate reality.

I am a fragment of an entity much bigger than me.

So hum.

So hum.

So hum.

As you breathe and repeat the mantra,

Try to maintain a good posture.

Your spine is straight,

Your shoulders are relaxed,

Your face is soft and your mind is calm and focused.

Repeating the mantra makes you serene,

Harmonious,

Aware.

And excellent.

1 Having repeated the mantra,

So,

Hum,

Slowly let's let go of it.

Let it slide into silence.

Having repeated the mantra,

So,

Hum,

Slowly let's let go of it.

Let it slide into silence.

Breathe naturally.

Listen to the sounds around you.

Listen to the silence around you.

Listen Often it's not words but silence that gives us the right answers.

So,

Breathing naturally,

Let's embrace the silence.

Slowly,

You can bring your focus back onto your breath.

Take awareness of your body and slowly open your eyes.
