What is overwhelm?
Is a question.
I found myself asking through my recovery journey.
Over and over again.
In my experience,
Overwhelm is a state of being.
Where I feel that there isn't.
.
.
Capacity to navigate life anymore.
Becoming aware.
When I am in this space and taking action.
Was and still is key for me to moving out of overwhelm.
It has also been.
.
.
Incredibly helpful to notice what are my cues.
Um.
.
.
Let me know when things have become too much and this is different from person to person and I invite you to explore this for yourself.
But for me.
.
.
It's usually a tingling at the base of the skull.
Blurry vision,
Racing thoughts.
Or a blank mind,
Dizziness.
Body bracing.
Um and if awareness of the body cues and signals and messages.
Comes first.
For me personally the neck step that has been again very supportive.
Is disengaging from doing and inviting a sense of just simply being.
Inviting.
Time and space needed for resources to grow.
And allowing the unfolding of the natural movement towards balance and equanimity.
And a few practices.
That helped me when I become.
.
.
Overwhelmed.
Orienting,
Using my senses to come in connection with the immediate environment.
Grounding.
Feeling into the physicality of my body,
The sensations of contact between the body and the earth.
Definitely soothing touch and engaging with the caring part of myself.
And this can be hand on the forehead,
Hand on the heart,
Wrapping my arms around my body in a self hug.
Hands on the belly and an also kind word.
Inviting compassion through loving language.
I hope this.
