No.
You understood what is the self we discussed yesterday?
Brahman Consciousness.
Brahman Consciousness,
That energy which is pure nothingness,
That is what I am really,
I am a little part of that.
It's like that is the ocean and I am that drop of water from that ocean.
Yes?
So I am like that piece,
That peaceful part of me is the self.
There are no ragas and dvishas at the self level.
Clear?
So where are they created and how are they created?
Let's understand this process.
When I intellectually dissect it,
It becomes easier for me to recognize,
Oh,
This situation might make me,
You know,
That fire might come up,
That water might come up.
So it will help you decipher.
So let's take a simple example.
At each level now.
At each level I am sometimes conscious,
Sometimes unconscious.
Even though I may be sitting like this in a sangha,
Listening to somebody,
For a while the mind just goes off.
Doesn't that happen?
And then you come back and you are like,
What did she say?
I missed it.
What happened at that moment?
Your focus changed.
Awareness was gone.
What is awareness really?
What is awareness?
What is the function of the intellect?
The sensation that comes in the body and you lose the awareness.
Okay,
But what is awareness?
Your mind,
Intellect,
They are there at the present moment.
Self.
Now what is the self?
Self is the energy that runs this prakriti.
And this body,
Mind,
Ego,
Intellect complex,
This whole thing is prakriti.
What is the consciousness?
The purusha or that self,
Which is me.
When that purusha is completely in the present moment with the mind,
You are paying attention.
So whatever you listen to goes in.
Whatever you are seeing,
These words,
They register.
The moment the mind goes into a dream like state,
What happens?
The purusha,
The self also goes with the mind.
That is why I tell you,
Stop going with the mind.
Separate yourself from the mind.
Since yesterday I am telling you to give your mind a vacation,
Means what?
Separate yourself from the mind.
Do you understand that you are separate from the mind?
Through these years of meditation,
At least this much I have understood,
I am not the body,
I have a body.
Have you recognized this difference?
I am separate from the body.
Though it looks like I am the body,
But I am not this body.
Just like that,
I am not the mind,
I have a mind.
It is like a tool.
I pick it up and it is supposed to be used for a particular function and then the job is supposed to be done.
But the problem is I don't know when that start and stop is.
I get lost in it.
I don't know when to stop.
Are you understanding what I am saying?
So now let's first understand the function of all the tools.
Mind is a tool,
Intellect is a tool,
Memory is a tool.
Right now is the memory working?
No.
Are you remembering something right now?
No.
So memories in the background.
Are you seeing this?
Okay.
Remember your 12 times table.
12 ones are?
12 twos are?
12 threes are?
Now what is happening?
Where was this?
It was somewhere,
No?
Are you multiplying in your head right now?
It is stored in the memory.
You have memorized it,
By hearted it and stored somewhere.
What is that?
Unconsciousness.
Perfect.
So you have two levels,
Conscious and unconscious.
There is a subconscious also,
But I won't complicate it at this stage for you.
But understand there is one more in between.
Let's just understand conscious and unconscious.
So if you came up with this 12 times table,
Was it in the unconscious?
Yes.
So somewhere in the memory,
In the unconscious I have impressions.
You understood impressions yesterday,
Right?
Impression of whatever I have stored in the past.
This impression is sitting in the unconscious.
That is why when I told you to make a list of likes and dislikes,
You could not make it immediately yesterday.
It took some time to come from the unconscious to the conscious.
It took some time,
It took some,
You know,
I had to tell you so many things,
I had to talk about the knowledge,
The importance of it.
You went into your unconscious and you got them out.
Are you seeing this?
And if it comes to mind,
That means it is a karma,
An impression stored.
If I am thirsty,
I pick up the glass,
I drink water,
I put it on the side.
With this action,
Have I stored an impression?
I don't even remember how many glasses of water I have had in my entire lifetime.
Are you seeing what I am saying?
So how do I store impressions really?
In your example,
In your example like glass of water,
That is also stored that you know in your unconscious mind that you had to pick up a glass and you had to drink it.
I know water.
It is not stored,
I am talking about stored.
You took at least half an hour this morning to sit down and again bring up the ragas and dveshas and put them on that paper and put it in the bag.
It came from the unconscious to the conscious level.
There are many in the unconscious which will not be possible to come up.
Why?
They are stored very deeply.
And they are from?
Previous lifetimes.
Previous lifetimes.
So unless you are a yogi or a constant meditator,
You cannot recognize those impressions which are from the previous lifetime.
Yes,
When you come to a very higher level of continuous meditation where your meditation becomes open-eyed even.
While walking you are meditating,
While talking you are meditating,
While doing your office work you are in that meditative state.
When you come to that level,
Then you will know even impressions from your past life.
But right now,
Whatever is there in this particular life,
30,
40,
50,
60,
70 years whatever I have lived,
That impressions start coming up.
You are understanding impressions?
That is why somebody you see from 20 years ago,
Suddenly fire,
Water,
Earth,
Air,
I don't want to run away,
I don't want to see this person.
