Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is turn toward an uncomfortable feeling instead of away from it.
This practice is based on the ancient poem,
The Guesthouse,
By Persian philosopher Rumi.
In the spirit of the poem,
We acknowledge all feelings,
Welcome them,
And process them.
Allowing for true healing.
This practice will guide you through the experience safely and gently.
It's based on self-compassion,
So you can do this with kindness towards yourself.
When you're ready,
Find a comfortable position and take a slow,
Deep breath.
Let's begin with the affirmations.
I can sit with this feeling.
It might not have a name,
But it makes me feel out of sorts.
This feeling challenges me.
I tend to push this feeling away,
Ignore it,
Or stuff it down inside myself.
But pretending it isn't there doesn't make it go away.
So today,
I choose differently.
Today,
I embrace every part of myself.
I welcome all feelings as teachers.
I do this with kindness and gentle curiosity.
I open myself to the grace of self-knowledge.
I put my hand on my heart.
This comforts me.
I breathe into my heart space.
As I breathe in,
My heart space expands.
My hand gently rises and falls with my breath.
I let my breath travel through my body.
I let it connect with the places where I experience the feeling.
I take deep,
Calming breaths.
My breath is soothing.
I accept the feeling.
I offer love to myself.
I honour myself.
I am transforming.
I am growing.
I am learning.
And so I returned to my breath.
I choose to find the love that exists within me.
I choose to find the peace that lives at the core of me.
I let love and peace spread to every part of myself.
I embrace all aspects of myself.
I am brave.
I am beautiful.
I am strong.
I am courageous enough to sit with discomfort.
I become wiser through this.
I become wiser every time I connect with myself through my breath.
I become wiser every time I accept all of myself.
I can sit with my feelings.
I accept every part of myself.
I do this with love.
