#17. Teacher, Guru, Master On Your Spiritual Journey | Vigyan Bhairav Tantra
Lots of people play different roles in your spiritual journey. To have clarity on who is a teacher, a guru or a master helps to approach that role rightly. If you don't have any person playing that role for you in life, LIFE Itself is the best teacher, the best guru, and the greatest master of all times. Meditation Technique: Chant om and meditate on the void at the end of the protracted sound and become the void by means of supreme energy of the void. Join me for a daily meditation session on Insight Timer Live.

Namaste and a very warm welcome to all of you in this daily live meditation session with me,
Dhyansa.
We're meditating on 112 meditation techniques of Vigyan Bhairav Tantra.
In your journey of life,
You come across different people.
They play different roles.
The role of a trainer,
A coach,
An influencer,
A teacher,
A guru,
A master.
So many of these names,
So many of these titles,
What do they really mean?
What do they bring to you in your life?
What role do they play in your life?
Especially in your spiritual journey,
As you move into this inner world,
Into this space which is vast,
Which is infinite,
What are these people?
What are these roles?
The role of a teacher,
Of a guru and a master.
A short story.
A king,
He received a painting,
A very beautiful vivid painting with such intricate detail,
So many facets,
So many aspects,
So many colours,
So many designs,
Such a psychedelic picture,
Such a psychedelic view that the king could never understand what is this painting.
He kept that painting in his room,
In his palace,
And every day he looked at that and he always wondered,
What is that?
What is this painting?
For years he kept on looking at the painting,
But he always had this question in his mind,
What is this painting?
What is the meaning of this painting?
So he called all the wisdom in his kingdom,
He called the best teacher,
He called the best guru,
He called the best master to come and tell what is this painting.
The three came,
The teacher,
The guru and the master,
They looked at the painting,
They took their time.
The teacher,
He said to the king,
He said,
I have looked into the scriptures,
I have looked into the details,
There are enormous references to this type of painting,
I can tell you about each and every detail,
Because each and every detail is written in some or the other scripture,
There is a lot of work to be done,
It will take several years.
Come let me teach you about each of these aspects,
And all these teachings are there in the scriptures,
So we have a reference,
So we have the validation,
Come and let me give you those teachings.
The king,
He thanked the teacher,
He said,
Thank you very much,
And looked at the guru.
The guru looked at the painting,
He said,
Yes,
I have experienced this painting as well,
I know this painting,
This painting is a very beautiful painting,
You will have to at least do ten rounds of earth,
You will have to go all,
You have to leave your kingdom,
You will have to go all around the earth at least ten times,
And then you will have to do a certain set of following practices which I will tell you,
And then you will also understand this painting,
You will also see the meaning of this painting.
The king thanked the guru for his teachings,
For his discipline,
And then he looked at the master,
The master,
He said to the king,
Take a step forward,
The king took a step forward,
The master said,
Do you see?
The king looked at the painting,
The master said,
Take one more step forward,
The king took one step forward,
The master took also that step forward with the king,
The master said,
Do you see?
The king looked at the painting,
Completely bewildered with what is happening,
He looked at the painting with all his energies,
The master said,
Take one more step forward,
The king took the last step forward,
The master took the step forward with the king,
The master said,
Do you see the door?
King did not say yes or no,
And the master took the king by his hand,
And they both entered the painting and they never came back.
As you meditate on this anecdote,
On this story,
Understand the role of teacher,
Of guru,
Of master,
This genre of this teacher,
Guru,
And master,
These words are used interchangeably,
They carry a lot of dirt on them,
They carry a lot of misunderstanding on them.
As we are on this journey of tantra,
Tantra has also always been misunderstood,
The connotations with tantra have always been misunderstood,
It has been associated with sexuality,
On the contrary,
Tantra is the science of raising your consciousness to the highest consciousness.
Similarly,
All these roles of a teacher,
Of a guru and master,
These are misunderstood,
And it is important on the spiritual journey when you come across these people,
When you come across these roles,
To put them in their right place,
To understand what these roles can bring to your life.
See,
A teacher is someone who teaches you the teachings,
Those teachings are mostly borrowed,
Those are from the scriptures,
From the traditions,
From the cultures,
From all that was done in the past,
It is a borrowed knowledge,
It is knowledge,
There is wisdom in it,
There is knowledge in it,
There is solution in it,
A teacher can also take you to solutions,
But those solutions,
Those teachings are all borrowed,
They are based on the past,
They have no life of their own,
They are dead,
They are knowledge,
They are information,
You can get that knowledge,
That information,
Most of it already today,
In all ways of the world,
But the teacher can make those translations,
Can make those interpretations,
If you like,
But the teacher remains with this borrowed knowledge,
The teacher may or may not have his or her light of his own.
The Guru,
The Guru has light of his own,
The Guru has experience of his own,
The Guru has come to the truth of his own,
The teacher may not have come to the truth,
He is speaking about the truth,
The Guru has truth of his own,
The Guru speaks of the truth,
But the Guru is speaking to all,
The Guru is giving a discipline,
The teacher is giving the teaching,
The Guru is giving a discipline,
Guru is sharing his teachings,
His learnings,
His experience,
It is one fit for all,
It is for everyone,
It is all inclusive.
The Master,
The work of a Master is very personal,
Is very precise,
The Master does not give you a teaching,
The Master does not give you even a discipline,
There is no teaching,
There is no discipline,
Master embodies the teaching,
Master embodies the discipline,
Master embodies the truth and creates a design,
Creates a situation for you,
Where you can enter the truth,
Where you can enter that truth which belongs to everyone,
Which is the truth of everyone.
And this word,
This beautiful word,
Master,
Has been put so much in dirt,
With all our mental projections that we have,
It has nothing to do with domination or with subjugation or with slavery or with whatever is there in your mind,
Where have you learned all that?
Master is such a beautiful word,
It is such a relationship which plays such a unique role in your life.
See that you can get these teachings from everywhere,
These borrowed teachings,
You can access them yourself as well.
The Guru also happens rarely,
It happens,
But it happens rarely,
And Master happens once in a lifetime.
This journey that you take,
This spiritual journey,
It is not just belonging to one life,
It belongs to lifetimes.
And you may come across thousands and thousands of teachers along this journey,
You may come across a few Gurus,
But once in a while you come across a Master.
It is not a given that in every lifetime you come across a Master.
The teacher gives you the solution from the books,
He may have answers to your problems.
A Guru answers your questions,
His answers to your questions are valid for everyone.
The Master takes you out of the questions.
He does not answer your questions,
He does not bother about you being in agreement with the answer,
He takes you out of the question.
See that a teacher,
There is only a relationship of the mind,
Only of the intellect,
Where if you are convinced,
If your mind is convinced,
You establish that relation with the teacher.
In fact,
There is no relation with the teacher.
It is very neutral.
With the Guru,
There is still some relationship,
It is of the heart.
If your heart is stirred by the presence of a Guru,
By the light of the Guru,
You connect to the Guru with your heart.
With the Master,
The connection is of the spirit.
It is also of the mind,
It is also of the heart,
But the connection,
The deepest connection is of the spirit.
This you cannot force on anybody.
This relation cannot be created artificially,
It happens on its own.
You only come upon it as a realization.
You may fall in love,
You may fall in love with the Guru,
You may have that relationship of the heart with the Guru,
But with the Master,
It is a complete unique place.
You may have several teachers,
You may have a few Gurus,
But a Master has to be only one at a time,
Because the Master creates the design where you are pulled out of your mind,
Where your heart is empowered,
Where you are put in a situation which is not always in agreement to what you are thinking,
What you are trying to convince yourself of.
So see that the role and the work of a teacher,
Of a Guru and a Master are completely different.
And you may not need any of those,
That is also the case.
You may not need any teacher,
You may not need any Guru,
You may not need any Master on your journey.
Your own life,
Your own self can play the role of a teacher,
Can play the role of a Guru,
Can play the role of a Master,
Provided you flow along,
Provided you give yourself,
You give your life that much positioning in your own life.
Right now you are steering your life,
You are controlling your life in a way as if you are somewhat superior than life,
Holding on to life,
Clinging on to life.
But if you make your own life as a teacher,
It will give you the teaching that you need.
If you make your life as a Guru,
It will give you the discipline that you need if you make your own life as a Master.
It will create situations where there is teaching,
Where there is learning,
Where there is discipline.
So life itself is the greatest Master of all times,
If you can allow that to happen.
If not,
Along your journey you will come across teachers,
Gurus and Masters,
See how you approach to them,
What you can receive when you approach to these type of people,
The teachers,
The Gurus and the Masters.
Let us look into the Vigyan Bhairavtantra and the meditation for today and understand that before we practice this in our silence in the next minutes.
Bhairava in Vigyan Bhairavtantra says,
Chant Om and meditate on the void at the end of the protected sound and become the void by means of supreme energy of the void.
Let me repeat.
Chant Om and meditate on the void at the end of the protected sound and become the void by means of supreme energy of the void.
This meditation is once again of listening.
What we did yesterday,
Listening to the vibration,
Letting go of everything in the vibration.
We did a wonderful technique yesterday.
Once again,
This technique is about the vibrations,
Is about sounds and letting go along with these sounds towards the silence,
From the sounds to the silence.
Here Bhairava says,
Chant Om.
This we have done previously as well in discourses,
In meditations on yoga,
On other subjects as well.
So,
This is a well known chanting meditation,
Very easy.
I will chant Om and either you chant Om alone or you simply listen,
If you cannot chant alone,
To the sounds,
To the vibrations,
To the reverberations of Om and after every Om there will be a silence,
There will be a pause.
Follow along this vibration of Om as it takes you from wherever you are to this place of silence.
It drops you into a silence which is infinite,
Which is all pervading and with every Om there is this opportunity,
There is this chance to connect to the sound of Om,
To the vibrations of Om and travel along from sound to the soundless,
From the sound to the silence,
To the unstruct sound which is produced at the heart,
Which can be heard at the heart,
The sound of silence is the same what we said yesterday and what we are doing today but a different way of approaching it with the chant of Om.
Please take a posture that is comfortable for you.
Close your eyes,
Keep your head,
Your neck,
Your back straight,
Relaxed and your body with every breath,
Relaxing in the posture yet remaining alert.
As I chant Om,
At best chant along with me,
You may not have the same pace,
So wait after you finish your Om.
Connect to the vibrations,
To the silence or if you are simply listening,
Then remain in that listening of the vibration of Om taking you from the sound to the silence after every Om.
Relax in your inner space.
Now Quite Gently.
Om Feel the vibrations of Om in your inner space Namaste AUM Connect to the source.
51st Aum Let go of all your thoughts,
All the contents in your consciousness,
In the vibrations,
In the reverberations of the cone.
Allow the energies in your inner space to rise,
To reorganize,
To flow along with the vibration of the cone.
Om Move into the silence of the sound of Om.
The silence that forms the sound of Om,
Pay attention to the silence,
To the source of Om.
Om Om With every Om,
Move from sound to the soundless,
The unstruct sound of silence.
Om Enter into the silence,
Into this vast,
Empty space.
Don't leave anything behind.
Don't hold onto anything.
Om Shanti Move into the silence,
Dissolve into the silence,
Mush into the silence.
Om Shanti No effort,
No holding back.
Om Shanti No effort,
No holding back.
Letting yourself go completely in the energy of the silence.
Om Allowing your awareness to expand in all directions,
Your silence to settle.
And remaining connected to the vibrations of Om,
To the vibrations of this unstruct sound of silence.
Very gently and slowly,
You may open your eyes.
With a new sense of awareness,
The new sense of silence,
The new sense of stillness and feeling these vibrations,
Taking these vibrations of silence alone in the rest of your day.
For those who feel the calling of sharing,
Of continuing this experience,
This silence,
This space,
This energy that we have in the sessions,
To share this with other meditators,
To share your love,
Your awareness,
Yourself with other meditators.
We have formed a small community,
A place,
A safe space where we can do that.
Please write me an email if you are interested with a little bit about yourself,
Your calling to this community and what you would like to give back to this community.
If not,
Your own individual journey,
In your own space,
In your own world is enough unto itself as well.
Thank you very much once again.
Namaste.
