Contemporary science says that loneliness is the result of perceived disconnection. In this practice, Davin offers some words of encouragement and a brief practice that will help you reconnect with the love of others that is with you at all times. His words are accompanied by a soundscape made of his voice.

Hey,

It's Davin.

Loneliness is tricky to navigate,

Isn't it?

Like a dark cloud,

It can seemingly come out of nowhere and hover over us.

And what's so strange is that you can feel lonely even when you're not alone.

Being with others can be incredibly lonely.

It's easy to feel alone in a large group.

It's easy to feel alone in an intimate relationship,

Marriage,

Partnership,

Friendship.

Or you might feel alone right now because you are indeed isolated.

You have the sense that you are cut off from the world around you.

You feel disconnected.

See,

Connection is actually at the heart of loneliness,

Or rather a sense of being disconnected.

This is why you can both be with other people and feel alone,

Or by yourself.

But the good news is that connection is not an experience that relies upon any specific situation.

But rather,

Connection is something that you can cultivate within yourself,

Right here,

Right now,

And as a result,

Diminish the experience of loneliness.

I mean,

This isn't some woo-woo mumbo-jumbo.

All of the contemporary science tells us this is true.

And the thing is,

When we re-establish this sense of connection within us,

What emerges that is so much greater,

Which dims the light of loneliness,

Is the experience of love.

So,

With all of that in mind,

If you're open to it,

I'd like to lead you in a brief exercise that I think will foster within you that sense of connection.

It might even reveal to you a new truth about this moment,

Something bigger than the story of loneliness.

Wherever you are right now,

Take your right hand and place it on your heart,

Right at the center of your chest.

Notice the experience of warmth that your hand offers.

Imagine the warmth of your hand radiating inward to your heart center,

And vice versa,

Your heart radiating outward.

And now,

With your hand here,

Bring to mind someone who has loved you,

Who has supported you,

Who has championed you,

Who has been there for you.

It could be someone who is with us now on this earthly plane,

Or someone who has passed.

It could be a group of people.

But someone who has held you and has seen the goodness that is you,

And has loved you.

Someone who has been there for you in your time of need.

And notice the energy of their presence in your thought.

Notice what it's like to think about this person or these people.

Notice the experience in your body,

In your heart,

In your mind,

In your spirit,

As you hold this picture of love,

As you hold this presence of connection and togetherness.

Although this person or these people might not be here with you right now,

This sense of connection is.

In fact,

This is the tie that binds.

It never goes away.

It's here for you at any time,

Should you be able to notice.

And the experience of noticing,

This experience right now,

This is fueled by love.

This comes and goes,

It shifts and changes and moves.

But love,

Love forever flows through it all.

Love is of that which you are made and that which you are worthy,

Which is why you have received from this person or these people in your mind's eye.

Why you've received love is because you deserve love.

And more importantly,

You are love.

So with that in mind,

Take your hand down from your heart and awaken to the truth of this moment,

The truth of connection,

The truth of your worthiness,

And the truth of love.

Even though the only people I could think of who loved me aren't here, it still helped. Thank you.

Beautiful meditation - however the exercise could be difficult if somebody has grown up with trauma and has not had anybody to support them.

Thank you. I found the happy thoughts of my partner who passed a year ago this week. I was feeling so lonely. This reminded me of the joy.
