The Proust effect, sometimes called a "madeleine moment" is the phenomenon that occurs when involuntary recall of a memory is triggered by an experience, which may be olfactory or tactile. It's demonstrated aptly in the movie Ratatouille, when chef Skinner tastes a dish prepared by Remy, and is transported to his days eating the same dish as a young child.
