Creating Peace In The World
Part of the Keys to Peace includes how to live in a world and learn how to implement the elements of Peace. It is so important that we wish to find peace in the World. The Five C's: Communication, Compromise, Commitment, Conditions, and Conflict resolution.

Aloha,
I'm Cindy Palos and this is part of the Elements of Peace.
We've been talking a lot about things that I know make a difference in finding peace,
Including prayer and meditation and finding lots of ways to observe and bring peace into your own life.
And I do believe that in the Elements of Peace we need to include five Cs,
Which are used by the UN and other peacemakers.
I thoroughly believe,
And I'm not alone,
That there's a huge amount of people in the world right now who have found ways to create peace in their lives and in their communities.
Maybe you've seen these Let Peace Prevail posts around the world.
I have.
We have one here on Maui.
I've seen them in other countries.
I know that there are so many peacemakers at work out there.
And I was blessed to be joined by other peacemakers at a UNESCO Peacemakers Poet Laureate Award Ceremony where I was awarded the Poet Laureate of Peace.
And I saw so many people working around the world for peace.
And there are educators out there educating and teaching people about peace.
Now where does that play a role in the world?
Well,
Obviously the UNESCO group and UN have found it important,
As we all have,
To try to find peace.
And since the Cold War,
Negotiating peace between a lot of disagreeing and warring parties has been the standard practice of how our world handles conflicts,
Both large and small.
There are those who seek to help restore peace using a lot of different kinds of methods to help end disputes.
And that happens even in communities with mediators rather than going to court.
Often they'll say,
Use a mediator first.
Try to work this out.
And there are certain wonderful principles these mediators use as well as peacemakers to try to neutralize conflicts between people and between nations and organizations.
This is something that we can do to make a difference.
And this is something that's so important because in our world there's so much divisiveness now in almost every community that I can think of in America has some divisions.
And I think that sometimes those divisions are fed by outside resources that see that it's to their benefit to divide and conquer.
So we need to focus on how we can resolve conflicts and find peace,
How we can do conflict resolution.
And there's some keys to that,
Of course,
Some which I've talked about here.
I know that if we can see from the other person's point of view,
If we can put ourselves in that neutral objective position and see what the other person is trying to accomplish,
Then we can have a better understanding of how we can come to some terms.
Now I know forgiveness works,
We've talked about honoponopono and peace through forgiveness.
We know that works in families in conflict resolution.
Can we take that same principle and put it to work for organizations,
For countries?
Can we find a way through another important C letter,
Communicate,
Can we find a way to communicate using words that are not going to push the other person away,
But finding a common ground,
Another C word,
That common ground.
Now if we're really truly believing that we are all one in spirit,
We all have some common ground.
We all have someone we love,
We all have families,
We all have something that we can agree on in that common ground space.
And in that common ground,
We can plant seeds of peace.
It takes time and it takes understanding.
But look at what the results could be.
Now when there's a lot at stake,
Of course,
We need to set certain conditions,
Another C word there,
Conditions on what we do to try to maintain that peace.
You'll find that even when you go to a counselor and people wanting some marriage counseling or relationship counseling,
How do you communicate with what rules so that we don't go into pushing a button that is going to cause more problems?
Now a lot of times that brings up another C word,
Compromise.
Are you willing to compromise something to find peace?
Are you willing to negotiate a peace?
We have to wonder what has brought about these major conflicts.
Let's take one of the most difficult and extreme ones that have happened in the world,
Which has got to be the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
And if we dig deep,
That conflict goes back thousands of years.
It goes deep.
It might even be in the DNA,
The energy fields of these people.
That goes back to some very,
Very deep roots,
But it also goes back to something that causes sometimes a lot of wars.
And that is religious beliefs.
Let's get down to the heart of the matter on what happens when we have our own religious beliefs.
When you have a very,
Very,
Very strong belief that you're willing to give your life for,
And you believe it with your mind and your heart and soul,
And you've seen people die for it,
You have more invested in that belief.
And that belief takes precedence over being willing to compromise.
And it also is very hard to communicate because sometimes you can't even explain it because it does go maybe so deep into your whole belief system and your DNA.
So as hard as people have tried over the years to find peace in our time between Israel and Palestine,
There has been no lasting peace there.
Now there's been pockets of peace.
And how does that happen?
Well,
We know everywhere in the world where we have been able to find people who value and trust in peace and communication and understanding and forgiveness,
That they have been able to achieve this.
No,
Unfortunately,
Some of those principles have been ignored by some of the negotiators of peace throughout the world.
How many stories are there of someone who's fallen in love,
Someone from Palestine has fallen in love with an Israeli or an Israeli fall in love with a Palestinian?
It happens.
It happens here in our country.
In America,
There have been people who are so strongly believing in their political party,
And yet they marry someone who is of a different belief.
There's cases of people who are believing in vaccinations married to people who do not believe in vaccinations.
So what happens and how do these people find a way to achieve what countries and major organizations have sent probably billions of dollars on?
They've been able to find a key,
Which I hope we've been able to discuss here that some of that major key in these cases is love.
There are certain things you find in love that's as important or maybe even more important than your differing beliefs.
And with that love,
You understand the sensitivity,
The buttons that you don't want to push if you're going to survive together in a relationship.
You learn.
You learn not to push that button.
You learn in a family.
You don't discuss certain things that are going to get people angry.
That is such an important key,
Isn't it?
If you don't want to fight,
You don't push the buttons.
You learn.
You learn this over time.
And I think we can learn as a country to understand that same thing in other countries.
You can keep violence at bay by fostering a culture of peace.
And so when we go back to you and I and those who are in organizations that believe this,
That foster peace through so many different ways,
We have to see that those keys and that work is laying a foundation that can make a difference in the world,
That can create peace.
All of these ideas we've talked about can help to reduce tensions,
Anger,
Hatred,
And cause us to realize the importance of having a bridge between one person and another,
Between one country and another.
There's been people who have had families stay in other countries when they're going to school in other countries and they've learned to understand and accept into their family people of different beliefs and different religions and different ideologies and they get along because they're part of the same family.
The world is one family.
When people have been going into outer space and looking back on this blue planet,
It becomes so obvious it's one planet,
It's one people,
It's one family of people.
So how important is it to get along,
To find peace?
Let's just hold that thought and breathe that in and be with it.
Breathing in that energy of the one world family and allowing ourselves to imagine a world at peace.
Allowing ourselves to see the similarities,
Not the differences,
But the similarities that unite the world.
Just breathe that in.
Allow yourself to feel that union of the world at peace,
Joining with our similarities and our understanding.
Breathing in as we imagine that love that exists between people who we would have never guessed could love each other.
Let us imagine that love that we can have with others who may not think like us,
Who may not believe like we believe.
But let us plant seeds in our imagination in the common field,
The common ground of what we all are at one with.
We all have a soul.
We all have family.
We all love someone else.
We all care about others in some way.
Let's spread that caring to the world.
See it.
Feel the world at peace.
Believe the world can be at peace.
Feel that image of this one beautiful planet radiating with the energy of love,
With unity,
With harmony,
With peace.
Think of the times people have gone to other countries and played music and everyone's joined together with song.
People from America going to Russia and singing songs of peace together.
It's happened.
People from Russia coming to America and sharing understanding and peace through music,
Through culture,
Through dance,
Through song,
Through poems,
Through artwork.
This is how we build the world,
Family and peace.
Let's just take a moment to hold that image and take a moment to see how you can foster peace in your community,
In your family,
In your life.
You are not alone in this effort.
There are so many,
So many working towards peace.
Join with that energy of all the peacemakers and send them your love and light.
Send healing to all those who are not at peace and understand their reasons.
Now slowly come out and write down any thoughts that may have come to you about how you can share that peace with others,
How you can be a peacemaker.
I thank you so,
So very much for taking this time to be one of those who are working in the world to join us together in peace.
Peace be with you always.
God bless you.
