Welcome.
Our bodies hold on to the tension of the day,
And at night,
Sometimes our busy minds try to make sense of all we've seen and felt,
And sometimes it can feel a bit scary when we've had a bad dream,
And we're worried about getting back to sleep.
I wonder if you're ready to release all the stress and tension in your body and your mind,
And let the dream fairy help you to relax as you drift off into peaceful sleep.
So if you're ready,
And a little bit curious as to what a dream fairy may say or do,
I invite you to snuggle down deep into bed,
Wriggle into the most comfortable position,
Stretching your toes,
Rolling your shoulders,
And maybe even wriggling your nose.
And when all that is done,
I wonder if you can take the biggest breath that you can,
And whoosh it out with a big sigh.
For every time we breathe out deeply,
We remind our body that we're safe,
And that right now is the perfect time to relax.
And I wonder what your arms will begin to notice as they feel the softness of the bed.
Perhaps they'll feel heavy,
Or perhaps they feel light.
And as you notice the rise and fall of your chest with each slow breath,
You might even notice the temperature of your feet that maybe you weren't aware of a moment ago.
And isn't it funny that our feet feel so much,
But most of the time we don't even notice them,
And often we don't pay attention to how comfortable our pillow is as we're drifting off to sleep.
And isn't it funny how some things we can completely forget,
The things that aren't important to us right now.
And while all parts of you relax deeper into a comfortable feeling,
I'd like to invite the dream fairy to join us.
My mother used to call her the blue fairy when I was very small.
Every night my mother would hold me tight and whisper,
It's time to turn off the light now.
And if you listen very carefully,
With eyes gently closed,
The blue fairy will wave her magic wand above you and send sparkles through the room.
And when you're ready,
She'll show you how to breathe magic into your heart.
But remember,
My mother would say,
The blue fairy is very shy.
If you open your eyes,
She'll hide in the shadows,
For only when you're still with eyelids closed can the magic really begin.
So just like you,
Every night I'd close my eyes and wait and watch as sparkles drifted beneath my eyelids and the world felt snug and warm.
And with each beat of my heart,
I began to hear the tinkling sounds and feel a gentle breeze as the sound of wings fluttered above me.
Tell me what you wish to feel.
I would hear the blue fairy ask in a voice as whisper soft as a breeze.
And then she'd say,
Now breathe that feeling into your heart.
Sometimes I would wish to feel the nuzzle of a pony's face,
Soft and warm against my cheek.
Sometimes it was the feeling of swooping,
Gliding,
Soaring on a dragon's back as we painted the sky with rainbows.
Sometimes I wished to feel as if my body was rolling down a grassy hill.
But my favourite was the feeling of floating with my arms hurled out wide,
Soaring through the night sky towards my favourite star.
This star was the one that always welcomed me,
Like a best friend,
Was always excited to see you.
And the closer I felt I was flying to it,
The lighter and calmer I felt.
And up there so high,
I could see the earth far below me.
My house,
My bedroom,
My bed all wrapped in the sparkles of magic dust.
As I flew higher and higher with a heart full of magic.
And as you welcome in the blue fairy,
I wonder what you would wish to feel in this moment as she raises her magic wand.
With each deep breath,
Taking you deeper into that feeling and allowing the magic to flow into your heart.
And then she would ask me,
What do you wish to see?
Real magic,
I'd reply.
And then the fun would begin.
The blue fairy would send sparkles of blue shimmering light that floated across the night sky,
Creating a ball of light all around me as I flew through it.
This is your bubble of safety,
She would say.
It will protect you wherever you go.
This is your bubble of magic.
And whatever you focus on,
You can create.
This is your bubble of confidence.
Know that your body will help you to be the best you can be.
And all through that night I was surrounded by protection.
And all through the night I felt safe and loved.
And each night the blue fairy keeps watch over me as I dance through new dreams filled with the sounds of laughter,
Ponies and pirates,
Moonbeams and dragons,
Starshine,
Mermaids and mischief.
And sometimes if my body tenses,
I remember to take slow deep breaths,
Feeling that bubble of safety and comfort as I float in that bubble of light.
And with each slow deep breath I float gently and peacefully,
Drifting and floating and welcoming sleep,
Breathing in safety into my heart,
Feeling its magic safe in my dreams.
And with this bubble of light around you,
You wake at the perfect time for you.
Comfortable,
Relaxed,
Surrounded by magic.
Comfortable,
Relaxed,
Surrounded by love.
Breathing in peace.
Confident,
Safe.
Surrounded by protection.
And the magic of the blue fairy.
