Rain

"Rain" is an audio track recorded during a rainstorm of a poem by Cassie Premo Steele called, "What I Want to Tell You about the Rain," from her book The Pomegranate Papers, read by the author. The poem has themes of survival, resilience and patient hope in the face of the weather of our lives.

What I want to tell you about the rain.

There will be seasons of longing as the earth,

Your mouth,

Your mind cry out for water.

Faith in this time will shimmer as it beckons and disappears.

Suddenly it will come.

Your tongue out the car window will greet it.

You will gulp it,

Be greedy,

You forget all your fears.

And then you grow weary,

Miss the bees and the birds and the wide wave of sunlight.

All is puddles and tears.

This is the thing about rain that I want to tell you.

It will come.

It will go.

The sooner you learn this,

The better.
