Beginners Mind offers the opportunity to look upon the world with an open mind. With curiosity. With a child-like perspective of wonder. In today's meditation, we'll explore this idea and practice adopting a beginner's mindset using journal prompts and a fun exercise. I invite you to dive into this meditation and see how your day might change if you adopt a beginner's mindset. Best to listen with headphones. And, as always, journaling is optional. Namaste.

Hello and welcome.

Today we will practice adopting a beginner's mind.

So ideally with your journal by your side,

But not necessary,

Nothing is mandatory,

Settle in.

Get super comfortable.

And when you feel ready,

Close your eyes.

And let's breathe.

Taking a deep breath in and releasing it out.

Another deep breath in through your nose.

And you may want to sigh it out.

Breathing in and releasing any thoughts as you breathe.

Feeling them out.

Allowing your thoughts to just drift by and empty out.

Feeling yourself without expectation or judgment.

Gently riding your breath now to your heart.

Allowing your heart to be open.

Breathing in to your open heart.

Today we practice beginner's mind.

It is an aspect of mindfulness,

A way we look upon the world without preconceptions,

Without expectation,

Without judgment,

And without prejudice.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Today we practice beginner's mind.

It is a way to look upon things as if you are seeing them for the first time.

Breathing in and breathing out.

Beginner's mind as if you are looking at something for the first time,

Like a child with wonder,

With curiosity,

With openness.

Breathing in to this concept of beginner's mind and breathing out.

Today we're going to practice beginner's mind in our journals.

When you feel ready,

I invite you to open your eyes and allow them to rest on an object in the room.

Something maybe that draws your attention.

It could be a pillow.

It could be a picture on the wall.

Something on your desk.

Something on your table.

Something overcomplicated.

Just allow your eyes to fall on something.

When you feel ready and you've found that object,

I invite you to turn toward your journal and here are a couple of prompts for you so that you can practice beginner's mind.

So look upon this object as if you have never seen it before.

I mean,

Really look at it without any judgment as if you have never seen it before.

Notice its unique qualities.

What does it look like?

You might want to touch it.

What does it feel like?

Does it catch shadows or light?

And write about this object as if you were a child and you have never seen it before.

And have fun.

Write about this object.

What it looks like.

What it might be.

What it could be used for.

I mean,

Really have fun.

Just allow your mind to write about this object with a beginner's mindset.

You might surprise yourself.

You might look at this object and notice something that you might not have noticed before.

I'll give you a few moments with your journals and I'll be right back.

Okay.

You you you you might want to jot down some notes in In terms of this object and you're noticing and beginner's mind Did you notice something you hadn't noticed before?

Take a few moments writing some notes Anything that might have shifted and I'll be right back you you Let's practice this now with something else Think about a certain situation Maybe a person that sort of rubs you the wrong way or pushes your buttons Maybe a conversation you had that you can't let go of because you wish it happened differently you wish you said something different So take a moment think of something person situation conversation So let's practice beginner's mind looking at this situation Maybe from a child's perspective as if you were watching a movie looking at these characters on the screen Wondering who are they?

What do they need?

What do they desire?

Looking at them with a beginner's mind With a little compassion with a little distance With no judgment.

I invite you to turn toward your journal and just write about it Wondering what is this about?

What did these characters these people desire?

What do they need?

What might make them happy or feel at ease?

From the perspective of beginner's mind childlike curiosity and wonder And if nothing comes just ask yourself over and over I wonder what this is about Eventually,

You will receive an answer.

I'll give you a few moments with your journal and I'll be back You You You You You I Have one more question for you and that is What shifted and in noticing this shift?

I invite you once more to turn toward your journal and ask yourself How might I approach this day with the beginner's mind?

How can I go out into the world and adapt a beginner's mind and maybe a little addendum What might shift in my life in?

The world and other people's lives What ripple effect could I cause?

By adapting a beginner's mind today,

I Will leave you with your journals your beautiful open heart your Beautiful beginner's mind and this beautiful day Thank you for practicing Namaste

I was surprised by the odd hybrid meditation/guided activity, but the exercises were so incredibly helpful. Thank you. I will come back to this again and again.
