When overwhelm hits, it is easy to want to go into problem-solving mode, but what I find works most effectively for my clients is to create space to find our center and let solutions come from that place. This practice allows you to come into your body and create a sense of peace.

I want to invite you in this moment to get about 10% more comfortable.

What does your body need right now to relax a little bit deeper?

Just giving yourself permission to do that.

These next few minutes are for you to come home to yourself and put down the overwhelm that you've been feeling.

We're going to start doing that by coming into the body.

Starting to scan the body,

Starting in your head,

Your forehead,

All the way around your skull,

Your jaw,

Noticing your ears,

The back of your neck,

Your throat,

Leading down into your chest,

Your upper back,

Your shoulders,

Down into your upper back,

Kind of feeling a 360 degree feel of your body.

Somewhere of your chest and your upper back and your upper arms and moving that awareness downward.

Feeling the core of your body and your mid back and your mid arms.

Noticing any way in which your arms might be against your body or far away from your body.

Feeling your body in the space you are in.

Bringing your awareness now down further to the lower back and to your belly.

Down into your seat and your pelvic floor,

Your hips.

Following that awareness through with down into your hands.

Then bringing your awareness through your thighs,

Down into your knees,

Your shins,

Your calves,

Your ankle,

The top of your foot,

And the bottom of your foot.

Just becoming aware of your body as it is in this moment.

Slowing down with your body in this moment.

Taking a nice deep breath here.

As you continue to breathe,

Feeling the way your breath interacts with your body as your inhale expands your chest and your belly.

As you exhale,

The air flows out.

Noticing that process.

As you're with your breath here,

I want you to acknowledge that you can't always think your way to a solution.

When overwhelm hits us,

It's often coming from so many things happening at once.

And then we're trying to solve it.

We're trying to make it easier.

We're trying to make it better.

We're trying to make it right.

Whatever it is.

And the way out of that is to rest in being and creating space for yourself as you are right now.

So just taking another nice deep breath in here.

Want you to turn your attention into your heart space.

And this is both where the anatomical heart is,

But also our chest where we can feel a lot of emotion.

Sometimes we might feel elation or heaviness.

A million other things,

Right in the core of our being.

So it feels like that's both where anatomical and our spiritual heart is.

Just tuning into that center.

See if you can tune into your actual heartbeat.

The heartbeat happens without us needing to make anything happen.

The same can be true with your overwhelm,

Dear one.

You can just rest in the safety of your heartbeat,

Its consistency without needing to make anything happen right now.

When we are overwhelmed,

Often the hardest thing to do is to become still.

And you've just created a little pocket of stillness for yourself.

And from this stillness is where clarity comes.

So when you feel overwhelmed,

Instead of trying to problem solve,

I want you to take the cue that it's time to stop and breathe.

Find your body and find your heart.

And trust that the solutions and the answers will come to you.

Keep breathing here into the space you're creating.

You can breathe into this space for as long as it feels good.

And then whenever you're ready,

Tuning back in to your life,

To the rest of your day.

And just coming back to this meditation,

Coming back to a pause as you need it.
