Hello and welcome.
In this talk,
I'd like to discuss what is a peacekeeper.
So we often think of a peacekeeper as someone outside of ourself,
Someone out there we give the job to of maintaining peace in the world.
But if we actually want to create more peace and connection in the world,
This is not enough.
As long as we're giving someone else this responsibility,
Then we're not taking full responsibility for ourself,
For our contributions,
For how our words and our actions impact others.
Because all of the unrest,
Conflict and turmoil that's happening out there in the world,
No matter how big or small,
Is a reflection of the unrest,
Conflict and turmoil inside each one of us.
And now you don't have to take my word for this or anyone else's.
If you're willing to reflect on your own life experiences,
You'll know this to be true for yourself.
You know that when you're stressed,
Overwhelmed,
Unsettled or frustrated,
It's much easier to get into an argument or a conflict of some kind.
It's the natural result of those emotions and those states of mind.
They make us more reactive.
So our inner conflicts do impose themselves out there in the world.
Those emotional reactions create a sense of separation and they create conflict in the world.
Whereas when you're in a more peaceful,
Calm or joyous mood,
You naturally open and connect more to the people you interact with.
You have more patience,
More understanding and compassion.
You feel more connected.
And when you feel connected to someone,
You don't do them harm because you seek common ground.
There's a sense of connection where you're not really separate from those people and you strive to understand them.
And this understanding brings us closer together.
If you think about a time when you've really tried to understand someone,
You can feel that sense of connecting and coming closer together.
We don't have to judge our states of mind as good or bad or right or wrong.
They're just different expressions of how we feel and how we interact with people.
But in the context of creating a more peaceful and connected world,
If that is something that we do want,
Then we do need to understand that our state of mind does impact the world around us because we can't expect someone else to take care of the peace in the world if we can't do it ourself.
It all starts with each one of us.
It starts inside us.
We're all part of this environment of humanity that we live in and it's time we realise this,
Time we feel it and it's time to step up and take responsibility for our state of mind,
Our emotions and the outward actions and words that they create and how they impact others.
As Adele Alama said,
We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourself.
So what the world needs are people who know what peace is on the inside,
Not just an idea or a concept in our head that we can use to justify anything,
But a knowing of peace in their heart because the essence of a peacekeeper is peace.
And when we act from that place of peace,
Of connection,
When we act from our heart,
This will carry a sense of peace and connection into the world,
A sense of care and understanding that will ripple out into the lives of the people we interact with.
So having said this,
I'd like to redefine what a peacekeeper is.
And this is really one of the foundations for why I created the Peacekeeper Project,
To inspire peacekeepers.
So first and foremost,
A peacekeeper is someone who seeks peace on the inside to overcome their own inner conflicts and then strives to live and act from that place.
A peacekeeper is someone who seeks understanding and truth rather than conflict or trying to hold onto pre-held or unconscious belief systems.
They have an open mind.
A peacekeeper is someone who understands they're part of something greater than themselves,
Humanity,
And desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
A peacekeeper is someone who understands their outward actions are a result of their inner state of mind and so strive to maintain the integrity of their words and actions by living from their heart.
So this is not an official position given by someone else.
These are just people who care,
People who are inspired,
People who are sensitive to the peace and wisdom of their heart and their connection to humanity.
So I invite you to be a peacekeeper.
Be the peacekeeper the world needs.
And this just means connecting to your heart.
But how would this look?
This could be something as simple and profound as bringing a deeper sense of connection to your family and friends.
It could be teaching your children by example how to live from the heart,
What is peace,
How to feel more connected.
Could be holding space for someone when they're emotional,
Upset,
Or traumatized.
Could be bringing a sense of peace,
Connection to your workplace.
Bringing a sense of peace and clarity when there is emotional turmoil and conflict.
So instead of fueling those conflicts,
Staying in a space of peace and then coming to that sense of clarity that comes with that sense of peace.
Ultimately bringing heart into your interactions.
Like a candle anchors light into a dark room,
You can anchor peace and light into the world through your heart.
And the world needs your heart to shine.
So it's time for us all to really drop out of our busy,
Noisy head and into our heart and make a choice about what kind of a world we want to live in.
Because a peaceful and connected world is a joint effort.
It's a combined aspiration of the heart.
And also like a room full of candles joining their light to light up that dark room,
You're not alone.
Not everyone shines bright all the time,
But together we can shine bright.
Together we can anchor peace and light into the world through our hearts.
Now if you're inspired by this message,
If you feel your heart respond,
Please share this message so that others around the world can also connect to the message and be inspired to open their heart,
To shine their heart into the world so that together we can help to create a more peaceful and connected world.
