Why does chanting Sanskrit mantras purify the mind? What makes Sanskrit different from other languages? In this illuminating talk, Satyanarayana Dasa Babaji explains the profound science behind Sanskrit sound and its transformative power. Babaji reveals that Sanskrit letters are not arbitrary symbols but primal energies that first manifested in the mouth of Brahma at creation. The consonants and vowels are systematically connected to the five elements, five senses, and five sense objects — making Sanskrit a precise map of manifest reality. He explains that sound exists at four levels — from gross spoken speech to the subtlest undifferentiated nada from which all creation emerges. Mantra chanting works by gradually internalizing sound from the gross to the subtle, where sound and object become one. At that level, the distinction between word and reality dissolves — which is why realized sages could create and transform reality simply by speaking.

Sanskrit is.

.

.

Language.

Like any other language,

But it has some speciality.

And that is that letters or what you call alphabets.

We can think of them some sort of energies.

Like if you know that.

That you have 16 vowels and they are called matra not matrika,

Matra.

Matra means measurement.

Because it teaches you how long you have to keep the consonant.

So they are called Vyanjana.

Constants are called Vyanjana.

And these are called Swaras.

And together they are called Varna.

So Vengana also is called when you cook some vegetable etc.

They are also called Vengana.

Because venjana means that which expresses,

Like you have venjana vritti.

Without consonants you cannot express if you simply say vowels then like people practicing my music So that is vowels.

And then to actually express you need consonants that's why they're called Vyangana means through them you express idea,

Thoughts,

Feelings,

Whatever.

So both are needed.

So this when we express then you have to express your thoughts.

Or your feelings.

So thoughts are energies.

Like they say that thoughts are things.

This is a famous mantra these days in the West.

That thoughts are things,

Because these objects come into expression from thoughts.

And thought is a shabda.

So according to Sanskrit Shabda,

Sound is at four levels.

What we speak from our mouth,

This is called Vaikhari Vani.

And then beyond that is Madhyama.

Madhyama is when the word,

Because every word has got its referent,

Its object.

When you say cow,

Cow is the word and then cow is an object.

So they are two separate things.

There is sound and then there is object But if you go at the subtle level,

Then there is no distinction.

Both are together like two sides of the same coin.

And then if you go at further more deeper level,

Then they are one.

That is called Pashyanti.

And beyond that everything is just another,

Is a sound.

Like OM.

So everything comes from Aum.

So that manifests.

So this is a process of manifestation.

So this Sanskrit Alphabets manifested in Brahma's mouth.

In the beginning.

That's why they are arranged like that.

I don't think that there are other languages where you have the vowels first,

Then consonants.

Then consonants are also divided there are five groups of five.

Right,

Ka ka ga ga ga cha cha cha cha ya so they're also related to the five material elements.

Five senses.

Five sense objects.

Right?

So they are related like that five Working Senses 5.

Cognitive senses.

And five sense objects.

So they're made up like that.

So they have the potencies and then they have the antahstha janushmana.

Yada Lama So therefore,

Mantras are made of these letters.

And by chanting,

When we are chanting in the beginning,

Then it's just Vekari Vana.

Means just this gross sound coming,

Where the object and the sound are separate.

But if you internalize it,

If you go and chant,

That's why we say that chanting through the mind is more powerful.

Vachika or vocal chanting.

Because at the level of the mind.

Sound is not there.

The object and sound are together and then you go further down.

So,

That is how you will Realize it.

And then it is said that,

Like in the Bible said,

That in the beginning there was,

God said,

Let there be light,

And there was light.

So why is it Because when he says light,

The sound and the object are one for him.

So if he says it,

The object manifests.

That's how sages were in India.

Perfected it in the shabda.

Then when they speak they can create.

So if they give a curse,

It happens.

So in the material world we follow the sound.

According to the objects.

And in their case their sound is spoken and then it follows.

So that's the power of the mantra.

So this whole mantra,

Whole world is created by that.

So in Sanskrit there is a sloka that The world has come from sound.

Of the mantras.

And mantras are controlled by the brahmanas because they are in the Vedas.

And Vedas are studied by the Brahmanas.

Brahmin should study Veda for no reason.

But Manjuli Mahabhasa says that.

And the devatas are also controlled by the mantras.

So therefore the brahmanas control everything.

That was the power of the Brahmana because they controlled the mantra,

Mantra controlled the devatas and the world.

So these were the Brahmanas of India,

The sages were like that.
