Satyanarayana Dasa Babaji (born Satyapal Tanwar Chauhan) is a Vaishnava scholar, spiritual teacher, and founder of Jiva Institute of Vedic Studies in Vrindavan, India. Trained at the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, he later left a successful engineering career in the United States to pursue his inner quest for truth. Returning to India in 1983, he immersed himself in Sanskrit and the six systems of Indian philosophy under traditional teachers in Vrindavan. In 1987, he met his guru, Sri Haridas Shastri Maharaj, under whose guidance he studied the Vaishnava canon — including the six Sandarbhas of Jiva Gosvami, Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, and Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu. He holds a Ph.D. from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University with a thesis on Bhakti Sandarbha, and an M.A. in Sanskrit. He is the author of more than 20 books on Vedic philosophy and bhakti, translated into multiple languages. His teachings draw on a rare combination of academic rigor and deep traditional lineage. Rooted in the Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya, his approach is both intellectually precise and deeply devotional. He also teaches Patanjali Yoga and Vedic psychology, offering students a holistic understanding of the mind, consciousness, and the path to inner freedom. He teaches the Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, and bhakti yoga to students worldwide through live classes and online courses at Jiva Institute.
