The smallest things in our life are often the biggest things.
So taking a moment to get cozy,
Seated in a chair,
Cross-legged on the floor,
Thanking yourself for showing up to carve out this little bit of time for you today,
Relaxing your legs,
Your back,
Your shoulders,
Closing your eyes,
Becoming present,
Taking note of your breath,
Feeling the inhale through your nose,
Fresh air,
And exhaling through your mouth,
And inhaling through the nose,
Exhaling through the mouth,
And as you continue those nice deep breaths,
As thoughts come in,
Gently just pushing them to the side so you don't run away with the story,
Continuing to be present here now.
Gratitude is the ability to show appreciation for things in your life.
So often our gratitude focuses on the big things,
But today we're going to give attention to the small things that are right in front of you each and every day.
Starting to be aware of the noises around you,
Hearing the birds chirp,
Voices of people in your house,
Whatever's around you,
Being grateful for the ability to hear them.
As you inhale,
Taking in the scents around you,
Whatever those smells are,
Being grateful for the opportunity to smell them,
Gently feeling the textures beneath your feet and beneath your fingers for a moment,
Just being grateful to be able to feel those things.
Thinking about the taste,
Maybe it's the residue of coffee on your lips or tea or a meal,
Being grateful for the opportunity to taste.
Moving to the eyes,
Thinking about all the beautiful things you get to see every day,
The landscape,
The people,
The home you live in,
Being grateful for the opportunity to see them.
And as you think about all of these things,
Let's go even further,
More granular.
Gratitude for the person in your life who helps be your anchor,
Imagining their face,
Their smile,
Their laugh,
Being grateful for their presence in your life.
Moving to your children,
Your grandchildren,
Your nieces,
Your nephews,
Imagining those tiny little faces,
So sweet,
So kind,
So pure,
Being grateful for the opportunity to see them.
Being so grateful for the roof over your head,
But looking even deeper to each of those spaces in your home that bring you joy,
The cozy bed,
The warm shower,
The kitchen to prepare,
Home cooked meals,
The floor beneath you.
And thank you for all of those pieces,
Your career,
Your job,
Being grateful for the opportunity to do something you enjoy,
To be thanked for showing up every day in some way.
And lastly,
Moving to the body,
The one that holds you up strong,
That allows you to get out of bed each day,
To move to the kitchen,
To walk,
To run.
Whatever it is that your body allows you to do,
Not overlooking its health,
Its power,
Its importance in your life.
Letting today's practice remind you that it's the small things that lead us to the greatest things in our life.
When we carve out the time to be grateful,
We feel more peace,
We feel more present,
And we feel more joy in our day.
So as you leave this practice,
Declare the intention to take these tiny little pieces and show gratitude for them throughout your day.
Thank you,
And peace be with you.
