Good,
So settling yourself into Shavasana,
The pose of surrender.
Allow your body that deep rest.
Lying down on the floor,
Arms down beside you,
Palms up,
Letting the legs flop out to the sides.
Release the body completely to the floor.
And now allow there to be a space to let go of the mind as well.
The body and the mind are deeply connected.
They always influence one another.
When the body holds on to tension or discomfort,
The mind feels it.
And when the mind is busy with worries,
Stress or concerns,
The body responds by holding tension.
In yoga we're not simply relaxing the body or calming the mind,
We're gently releasing both.
We allow both the body and the mind to soften.
We let go and surrender into the stillness that lies beneath.
As we settle more and more deeply,
The body naturally becomes.
Rested.
Breathing becomes slower and easier,
The heart rate softens,
Blood pressure settles.
We begin to engage the body's natural relaxation response,
The part of the nerve system responsible for rest,
Healing and restoration.
This is our opportunity to replenish both the body and the mind.
And when we eventually return to our day,
We often notice the body feels lighter.
The mind more peaceful.
And yet there's a quiet energy within us.
Now we'll take a gentle journey throughout the body.
As we notice each area,
We simply observe and allow it to soften.
Often simply noticing is enough for the body to let go of tension.
Some of it we didn't even realise we were holding.
Bring your awareness down to the feet,
Notice the heels on the floor,
The soles of the feet and the toes.
Noticing all along the tops of the feet and the ankles resting out to the sides.
Noticing the calf muscles on the floor and the shins,
The kneecaps,
The little spaces behind the knees.
Noticing the front of the thighs and the back.
And allowing the legs and the feet to be heavy and floppy.
And noticing the torso,
The muscles in the buttocks soft,
The hips nestling down.
Notice all across the lower back.
Warm.
And the middle back sinking down.
And the shoulder blades heavy.
And in between the shoulder blades.
Noticing the shoulders,
Heavy sinking shoulders.
And observe the movement of the chest as you breathe.
The chest warm and noticing the abdomen,
Letting the tummy soften.
Observing all down the front of the arms,
All down the back of the arms,
The wrists,
The hands and the fingers gently curled,
The arms and the hands heavy.
And noticing the neck at the front.
And all down the back of the neck.
The next song.
Back of the head resting on the pillow and the top of the head.
The head sinking down.
And the face soft and the forehead,
In between the eyebrows,
Around the eyes,
The cheeks,
Around the mouth and the chin soft.
Letting go more and more of the body.
No body.
And now notice the mind.
Whatever thoughts are present,
Allow them to come and go without becoming involved.
Simply watch.
Release.
If you find yourself following your train of thought,
Gently return your attention and rise and fall to the chest as you breathe,
Or to the sounds around you.
And then softly settle back into that open spacious awareness.
A place beyond the boundaries of the mall.
A place of quiet freedom.
Allow yourself to rest here,
Nurturing the body,
Nurturing the mind.
Simply by surrendering,
Simply by being.
And remain here for a few quiet moments,
Resting in the stillness.
