Good Now,
I am Nicole Batiste of Antera Mastery and welcome to another Inner Mastery Minute.
Today,
We will be talking about food cravings.
The other day,
I wanted some cheesecake.
I'm not really a sweet tooth person.
So I didn't even think about What is causing this?
Now when I want spaghetti.
I know,
It's just that I am craving some type of connection and comfort because I loved when my mother made spaghetti when I was younger.
If I didn't have anything in the house and that meant I either needed to door dash it,
Spend about $80 and I say $80 because I figure if I'm going to pay a delivery fee,
I may as well order enough food to last me a couple of days.
So to have a piece of cheesecake,
I was either going to have to pay like $80 or take the time to get in my car and drive to wherever I would pick up the cheesecake from.
Those two obstacles,
For lack of a better word,
Bought me enough time for the craving to just pass.
And once it passed,
I didn't think about it again.
So I actually never went back to figure out what caused that craving.
Anyway.
.
.
That said,
The inner mastery way of dealing with food cravings,
You probably have an idea just based on the stories I told you.
But before I get into that,
Before I get into those tips of shares,
I do want to make sure that I am clear.
When I'm talking about food cravings,
I am talking about just acute ones that pop in from time to time,
Typically around emotions.
I am not talking about cravings when it comes to addictions.
That is out of my scope,
So I will not speak on that.
So,
Going forward,
We're talking about food cravings when,
Well,
Let's just get into it.
So the first thing to think about is usually.
.
.
It's the thought of having the thing that really has you more excited,
That gives you that dopamine hit.
It's the thought of it,
Not necessarily the thing itself.
How many times have you I've done this with funnel cakes.
Because of course back in my day funnel cakes were absolutely delicious and I wanted a funnel cake one time I was out and I was like I gotta get a funnel cake while I'm here I was excited about it I got it and I wasn't so excited about it It was really just me being excited and bringing that memory forward.
It wasn't the actual eating of the cake.
Not saying the cake was bad,
It was actually pretty good,
But.
.
.
It did not give me that same excitement once I ate it as I was experiencing when I was just thinking about eating it.
So,
That said.
.
.
If you really think about what you're craving or excited to eat,
Think,
I wonder if it's just the fact that.
.
.
I'm excited about eating it.
A lot of times that decision to go get the thing is an empowering feeling because you made a decision to do something as opposed to sitting and wondering in pain.
Like back and forth.
So that in and of itself can be very liberating,
So to speak.
So if you're able to keep that in mind,
You actually may find it easier to allow cravings to pass.
And usually a craving like that that just pops out of nowhere,
It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to dissipate.
So if you could just hold on for about one minute at a time,
It's usually helpful.
I'll just give it one more minute.
I made it through that minute.
I'll just give it one more minute.
If you can hold off,
A lot of times the craving will subside.
Now,
I am not about deprivation,
Right?
You want something.
Actually,
We'll cover that a little bit later.
Next thing to consider.
If you're craving something,
Like I mentioned earlier,
I didn't.
.
.
Really think about where the cheesecake craving was coming from,
But I knew if I was craving spaghetti,
I would know what that was associated with for me.
So my invitation to you is when you have a craving come up,
Just get curious.
As you can imagine,
This is my favorite approach because it gets to the root of what is creating that craving because craving is just a symptom,
Right?
So get curious about what emotion you're trying to solve,
So to speak.
Are you sad?
Are you bored?
Are you lonely?
Are you excited?
Those are.
Emotions that can cause sometimes a craving.
Something.
We know the term comfort food,
Right?
That is one of those things that cravings,
When we're craving,
We're usually craving comfort food.
And so the invitation is for you to get curious and then once you kind of have an idea of what that root is,
Then you can You have a choice.
At least you're conscious now.
You're not just being driven by your cravings.
You are consciously aware of what's causing this craving.
You can either decide to go consume whatever that is or you can find something that would take the place.
Like for me,
The spaghetti.
I could just call my mom.
I realize that not everybody has that option.
The intent is to one become conscious of what's happening internally and then make the decision from a more conscious state.
Another thing to consider just actually popped in my mind is the association.
Is it an association?
So I have two stories that it stood out to me very vividly that this is an association.
One time I was driving to work and I didn't make myself a drink,
Like a hot tea or something,
And I was like,
I want my tea.
And it's because I've inadvertently associated driving somewhere with drinking something or snacking on something.
So it could be that.
And another time that it came very clear to me was when I broke my toe there's a device that helps the bone regrow to pick up that device,
I met the gentleman at the Starbucks that's nearby.
So every time I went to use that device on my foot,
I wanted Starbucks.
It took a couple weeks.
Of using the device and not going to Starbucks to disassociate that.
It's so weird.
But could the craving be associative like that?
It kind of goes hand in hand with emotions as well.
It can be associated with a certain emotion.
But like I said earlier,
It's not usually that emotion.
So what could happen is we associate the food with the emotion and we feel happier because we made a decision and we ate the food and that small gap in between the decision and eating makes it seem like they go together.
That is usually not the case,
Which is why I'm inviting you to delay,
Slow some things down.
That is inner mastery in action.
Conscious choice.
Crown.
If you've hung out with me long enough,
You know the crown framework.
Conscious choice,
Responsibility,
Those are the two biggest pieces here,
But the rest of it,
In case you have not heard it,
Owning my energy,
Worth without permission,
And no more self-abandonment,
Which could also be a factor in this as well.
Once you get to a place where you are acting more consciously,
There is a sense of freedom and energy.
Inner empowerment that Make sure you put your shoulders back and stand taller.
It's just inner mastery in action.
And it's a great place to be.
So try those things out,
Let me know how you experience them.
Yeah,
Just keep winning,
That's all.
Ciao for now.
May you always create the most amazing now moments.
Until I see you next time,
I'll see you around the app either in my live or someone else's,
But make every moment count because that's all we have is this now moment.
Ciao for now.
