A story of courage and tears by Hatch Brighter. Of feeling safe with vulnerable emotions. Tears may seem like a sign of weakness, but in reality, they are a testament to our strength. They come from a place of vulnerability, and it takes true courage to let them fall. A family of tears is longing to be seen, felt, and heard... bringing healing through their expression.

Transcript

The Family of Tears by Hatch Brider Once upon a time there was a family of tears.

Mommy tear,

Daddy tear,

And baby tear.

They had a home in a girl's eyes.

One day,

Mommy tear,

Daddy tear,

And baby tear were feeling very sad,

And the tears family started knocking on the door in the girl's eyes.

But the girl didn't listen.

They tried again,

Still no response.

So baby tear started feeling really sad,

And angry,

And frustrated.

Soon mommy tear also started feeling angry.

Then daddy tear got super angry too.

And all of a sudden,

The entire tear family heard the girl saying mean things to her friends and throwing some of her toys on the floor.

So this time the tears got sad for the little girl,

And they tried knocking again.

First they knocked gently,

Then a little louder,

And then ever so slowly the door started to open.

And man,

Oh man,

The tears family were so excited.

They slid down the door and had so much fun seeing the world and the sunshine.

When they were done talking and sliding,

They went back inside the door,

Closed it,

And felt so happy,

And snuggly,

And warm.

And they gave the little girl a big hug and said thank you for listening to our knock and letting us come out to play.

That was so fun.

What do you think the little girl learned from this?

The girl learned that she needs to listen to her beautiful family of tears and let them out when they knock.

If we don't open the door and lock them inside,

They can become angry and make us feel angry.

And we may do things like say mean things or throw things,

Or they can feel sad and make us feel sad and lonely and maybe even feel like we're not safe.

It is important we listen to our tears and honor their feelings when they knock on our eyes doors.

This doesn't mean we always cry.

We just need to pay attention and make sure we listen for when our tears want to come out and see the world because they deserve to come out sometimes.

The end.
