Today's meditation is designed to soothe heightened energy and emotional overwhelm so that you can return to a state of balance and calm.
And as I record this,
We are in the lead up to Christmas,
And this is a notoriously busy time of year for so many people.
And something that I am reminded of is a snow globe.
You know,
This is something that we often see around Christmas time,
A snow globe.
And of course,
What happens when you shake up a snow globe is that you see a flurry of snow and glitter swirl throughout the globe.
And then with a little bit of time,
And when left in stillness,
The snow eventually settles and falls to the ground and the globe becomes clear and still.
And so this is really how I see how energy can often feel,
Particularly in December.
But to be honest,
At any time of overwhelm,
It can feel like this flurry of heightened energy swirling throughout our body,
Clouding our vision and making it really hard to move forward with clarity and calm and groundedness.
And so just like the snow globe,
Sometimes we too just need an opportunity to settle,
An opportunity to be still and allow all of this heightened energy to settle to the ground.
And as it settles,
This is when we're able to see clearly.
And so this is really what this practice today is designed to support you with in settling and in coming back to a state of calm.
So I invite you here just to make yourself comfortable.
This may be sitting or lying,
However feels good for you.
And if you feel comfortable,
There is an invitation here for you to gently close your eyes,
But otherwise you may just like to gently soften or lower your gaze.
And often as we come to do this,
We can find that it takes a little bit of time for our body to catch up to the stillness.
And there may be some fidgets or movements or wriggles that you just need to expel from your system.
And that is okay.
Just let it happen.
Move in whatever ways you need to as you just slowly come to this state of stillness.
And then when you feel settled here,
I invite you just to gently bring your attention to your breath.
And we'll do a few cycles of intentional breathing with an extended exhalation just to really ground into this time.
So I invite you here to breathe in for one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And out for one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Again,
Breathe in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
Breathe in one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
And we'll do this once more.
So breathe in for one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And out one,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six.
And then you can just allow your breath here to return to its natural rhythm,
Remembering as always that your breath is your anchor and you can return to this at any time throughout your meditation today.
So take a moment here and just tune into the energy within your body.
Tune into your state of being.
And perhaps just like a snow globe,
You can feel the sensation of energy swirling and bouncing around your body.
What does this feel like for you?
And then here we are going to start at your head and imagine all of this energy,
Just like that swirling snow in a snow globe,
Settling to the bottom of your feet,
Settling to the ground beneath you,
Creating a sense of calm and clarity within.
So I invite you to bring your attention here to the crown of your head.
Feel into the sensation of energy starting to draw down and settle down into your forehead,
Your eyebrows,
Your eyes,
Down your cheeks,
Ears,
Nose,
Down your mouth,
Chin,
Jaw,
Lips,
This energy is moving down,
Drawing down across your collarbones,
Shoulders,
Down your upper arms,
Elbows,
Forearms,
Wrists,
Hands and fingers.
The energy is drawing down and settling down your chest,
Down into your ribs,
Your belly,
Down into your pelvis,
Your hips,
Sweeping down the back of your neck,
Down the length of your spine,
Into your sacrum,
Sweeping down your glutes,
Your thighs,
Calves and shins,
Down your ankles.
And eventually all of this energy is just settling down into your feet,
Down into your toes,
In such a way that it almost just melts out through the soles of your feet,
Into the ground beneath you,
Into the earth beneath you.
So just take a moment here to sink into the feeling of this heightened energy settling and coming to land in the earth beneath you.
And as you lean into this sensation of energy settling,
I invite you to just take some time here to sit in the stillness,
Sit in the still waters of your body,
In the calm,
In the settleness that exists within you,
Knowing that there is nowhere you need to be,
There is nothing else you need to be doing,
This is your time for you,
So be here now.
So as we come towards the end of our practice today,
You might like to finish as we started by bringing your attention back to your breath,
And again I invite you here to breathe in for 1,
2,
3,
4,
And out for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
In for 1,
2,
3,
4,
And out for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
One more time,
Breathe in for 1,
2,
3,
4,
And out for 1,
2,
3,
4,
5,
6,
And then just allow your breath to come back to its natural rhythm again,
And when you feel ready and there is no rush at all,
You can open up your eyes,
Bring your attention back into your surroundings as you move through the rest of your day,
Remembering and carrying with you this state of inner calm.
