Welcome.
Let's begin by simply arriving.
Find a posture that is upright and at ease not stiff,
Not slumped,
Let the spine rise gently dignified and relaxed.
Allowing the eyes to close or softening the gaze,
Whichever feels natural.
And taking one full breath,
Drawing it slowly in and letting go.
Feeling the places where you meet your support where you touch the chair,
The cushion,
The ground.
You are already held there effortlessly notice how little you have to be held allowing the breath to find its own rhythm and simply be aware of it not changing it just keeping it quiet company,
Breath by breath.
There is nowhere to get to in this practice.
Nothing to achieve.
This is not a striving.
It is a setting down.
So let the shoulders soften Let the hands rest open or easy in your lap.
Let the face be soft the brow unfurrowed.
And with each out-breath.
Let a little more of your holding on dissolve.
And so much of life is spent reaching reaching for what's next.
Reaching to fix.
To manage.
To become.
Here for these few minutes.
You can stop reaching.
Not to reach for stillness either.
But to notice that stillness is already here underneath the reaching.
It was here the whole time.
Now gently turn your attention inward.
Not to think,
But to listen.
Listen to the way you might listen in a quiet room for the presence of someone that you love.
A soft,
Open,
Waiting attention and into that listening,
Let peace come to you you are not manufacturing it.
You are not producing peace by effort.
You are only becoming still enough.
To notice.
What is already present.
The peace you have been seeking has never been far away.
It is closer than the breath.
Nearer than the next thought.
It has been holding you all along.
The way the sky holds everything within you and asks for nothing in return.
You do not have to earn this.
You do not have to be worthy of it or ready for it.
You have only to receive it.
The way an open hand receives the way still water receives the light.
Be still.
And let it come.
Now,
Simply rest here.
In the presence that holds you.
There is nothing to do but be held.
And if a thought arises.
Let it pass.
Like a cloud across an open sky.
You needn't follow it.
You needn't push it away.
Return.
Gently.
To the stillness.
You are not the busyness on the surface.
You are the deep quiet.
Beneath it.
Already held.
Already home at rest.
Rest there.
In a moment we'll bring the practice to a close.
But nothing you've touched here.
Needs to be left behind.
The stillness you've been resting in isn't only for this sitting.
It goes with you.
He has always come with you.
You are simply learning again to notice it.
So take a slower,
Fuller breath now.
And feel the body the weight of it.
Feel the aliveness in the hands.
Become aware once more of the room around you the sounds,
The light the air.
When you're ready.
In your own time.
Let the eyes open.
Carry the knowing with you as you go.
That whatever is asked of you.
Wherever you find yourself.
You are held.
And you never had to reach for it.
It was always already here.
