This short somatic awareness practice offers a gentle daily check-in with the body and nervous system. Many people move through the day without noticing what is happening inside their body. Over time this can create disconnection from emotions, sensations, and inner signals of stress or regulation. This guided awareness practice invites a moment to pause and reconnect with the body. Attention gradually moves through different areas of the body while noticing sensations, emotional tone, and the overall state of the nervous system. Rather than trying to change experience, the practice encourages simple awareness and curiosity. Many people find that when the body is gently noticed in this way, the nervous system naturally begins to settle and reorganize. This practice can be helpful: at the beginning of the day, during moments of stress or overwhelm, as a daily nervous system awareness practice, or whenever there is a desire to reconnect with the body.

Bringing your awareness into this moment,

Allowing a gentle pause.

Nothing needs to be accomplished here,

Just a quiet moment of noticing.

Beginning by sensing your body exactly as it is right now.

Feeling the simple presence of your body,

Sitting or resting.

Perhaps,

Noticing the weight of your body,

Supported by the surface beneath you.

The quiet support of gravity holding you here.

Letting awareness settle softly into the body,

Allowing sensations to appear naturally within attention.

There may be warmth,

Pressure,

Subtle movement or stillness,

Or very little sensation at all.

Everything that appears is simply part of the body being alive.

Slowly moving attention through the body,

Beginning with the feet.

Feeling the presence of your feet wherever they are,

Perhaps resting on the floor,

Or inside slippers or socks.

Noticing temperature,

Pressure,

Or subtle sensation.

Gently moving awareness upward into the legs,

Sensing the calves and the knees,

The thighs.

Perhaps,

Noticing heaviness or quiet strength in the muscles,

Or simply the presence of the legs resting here,

Continuing to let awareness move upward into the hips and pelvic area.

Feeling the area where the body meets the chair or surface beneath you,

The place where the body is supported,

Where weight is being held,

Allowing attention to move slowly into the belly.

Perhaps,

Noticing the natural rhythm of breathing,

The gentle rise,

The gentle fall,

Or simply the quiet presence of the abdomen.

Letting awareness drift upward toward the chest,

Sensing the heart space,

Perhaps noticing openness or pressure,

Warmth,

Or a quiet neutrality.

Gently moving awareness into the shoulders,

Then down through the arms,

Elbows,

Forearms,

Arriving at the hands,

Perhaps sensing the fingers resting quietly,

Allowing awareness to rise toward the neck and throat,

Sensing the jaw,

Cheeks,

Eyes,

Forehead,

And scalp.

Noticing the face from the inside.

Now,

Allowing awareness to widen slightly,

Sensing the body as a whole,

From the feet all the way to the head,

One living system,

Breathing and sensing.

Gently noticing the overall tone of your nervous system.

Perhaps,

Calm is present,

Perhaps activation,

Or tiredness,

Or a quiet steadiness,

Or nothing at all.

Nothing needs to change.

Just noticing.

For a few moments,

Allowing awareness to rest with the whole body.

Gradually noticing the space around your body again,

The room,

The environment.

Returning gently,

Carrying with you the small moment of awareness,

A quiet daily check-in with your body and nervous system.
