Sometimes when we're feeling vulnerable,
We need a sense of protection.
And if we're not able to conjure that up on our own,
This exercise can help get you there.
Find a comfortable seat.
Settle in.
Perhaps close the eyes or find a soft focal point and let the gaze just rest.
Take a couple of breaths.
Breathing in and breathing out.
I invite you now to picture a person,
An object,
A symbol,
Anything at all that represents protection to you.
Maybe it's a figure in your life,
Someone you know now or someone you've known in the past.
It could be a part of you.
It could be an animal.
Something from nature.
It could even be a religious or spiritual symbol.
Anything at all.
Anything that represents protection.
This is your protective ally.
Someone,
Something you can call upon when you're feeling vulnerable,
Exposed,
Insecure.
Now,
Bring this ally to light in your mind,
Noticing any imagery that goes along with it,
Including colors,
Shapes,
Sizes.
Notice if there are any sounds that go along with your protective ally.
If there's any textures.
Smells even.
As you connect with your protective ally in your mind,
Notice where you experience this sense of protection in your body.
Perhaps you sit up a little straighter.
You notice expansion in your chest.
Perhaps you feel power in your body.
A sense of confidence,
Even.
Notice whatever is there,
Wherever you feel it.
And hold that protective ally in your awareness as you notice all of the feelings and physical sensations that go along with it.
Notice if your protective ally has anything to say to you.
Any words of wisdom,
Any guidance,
Or any affirmations.
Allow those words to float through your awareness as you hold all of the feelings and sensations that go along with them.
Notice how you're feeling as you connect with this protective ally inside.
And how it shifts your thinking,
Your physical sensations,
Your feelings,
Your overall disposition.
This protective ally is here for you any time you need some protection.
They are always with you,
Always by your side.
All you need to do is turn inward and call upon them.
Use this resource next time you're struggling with confidence.
Next time you feel exposed and incredibly vulnerable.
When you need some strength to carry on.
Take a moment to let all this go.
Just notice any shifts inside.
And remember to come back to this ally whenever you need it.
Be well.
