If you struggle with stuffing your anger or exploding,
This video's gonna help.
Because in this video,
You're gonna learn my CALM method,
Which is my four-step process to managing anger and stress.
And this is also a preview of my anger course that you can check out later.
So the first part of the CALM method is C,
Which stands for catch your anger early.
This is the easiest,
Most impactful part of the method.
Because when you know how to catch your feelings of anger or stress before they get too intense,
They're much easier to manage.
So in my course,
I talk about four ways to do that,
And I'm gonna give you two here to get you started.
One is any type of behavioral signs,
Which means what do you do when you tend to be angry?
Do you yell?
Do you swear?
Do you pace around the house?
What do you do?
Because those are early warning signs you can identify.
Another one is your thinking.
Do you tend to have negative thoughts?
Most of us do when we're angry.
You might be blaming your partner.
You might be beating yourself up and being really mean to yourself because most people who struggle with anger struggle with negative thinking.
So the next part is A.
This is acknowledge your anger.
First,
We need to acknowledge our anger to ourselves.
We can do this by simply saying,
You know what,
I feel what I feel and I'm not wrong for it.
You might do some journaling around that.
This,
You might tell a trusted friend.
There are some other strategies I also talk about in the course where you can acknowledge your anger without making yourself wrong,
Because if we think anger is a bad emotion,
Something to avoid,
We're never gonna deal with it.
The next component is L.
This is where we're lowering our anger,
Where I'm gonna teach you strategies like the timeout.
Now,
Most of us use timeout with our kids,
But with anger,
It looks a little bit different.
You need to create an anger plan.
Meaning,
How long are you going to take that break?
What are you going to do during your time out?
Because there are specific things that can make the timeout work for you,
But a lot of people get this wrong.
And then they come back to me and say,
Well,
Michelle,
The timeout didn't work.
But I guarantee I know why,
Because there are common mistakes people make with time out that make it not work.
Another strategy for lowering your anger that I talk about in the course is the anger scale.
I'm gonna show you how to catch your anger in its early stages.
And this is a super easy way to basically take your emotional temperature each day.
You're gonna know exactly how angry or stressed you are instead of ignoring it or waiting until it builds up and then you explode because we don't want that.
Now,
The fourth part of the COM method is manage it.
These are things you can do to manage your lifestyle so that the anger doesn't create problems.
So these kinds of things might be setting boundaries,
Learning how to say no,
Communicating with your partner,
Being able to listen well.
How do you react when somebody else is angry?
All of those things I talk about in the course because when you can manage those everyday occurrences that happen in life,
You're gonna feel a lot more confident to handle your anger and stress in a much healthier way.
So go check out my course on anger,
And hopefully I'll see you there.
Thanks so much.
