Fear-based decisions are made from a place of avoidance.
You're not moving towards something you want,
You're moving away from something you're afraid of.
So fear-based decisions sound like this.
I'll stay in this job because leaving feels too risky.
I won't have that conversation because it will make her leave or make them uncomfortable.
I'll say yes because saying no now might make people think I'm selfish.
And I'll wait to make a move because if I act now and fail,
I'll look stupid.
So fear-based decisions keep you safe.
But they also keep you stuck.
Their survival strategies and they erode your self-respect.
You know deep down that you're making choices to avoid discomfort.
Not because they're actually aligned with who you are or what you want.
Truth-based decisions are made from a place of alignment.
You're listening to your gut,
Your values,
Your deeper knowing.
Even when it's uncomfortable,
Even when you can't guarantee the outcome,
So let's go over some truth based decisions.
So here's what a few truth-based decisions would sound like.
I know this is the right move,
Even though it scares me.
I need to have this conversation because my integrity requires it.
I'm saying no because saying yes would betray what I actually want.
Let me think of another.
I don't have all the answers but I'm choosing to act anyway because staying stuck is worse.
Truth-based decisions might not always work out the way you hoped.
But they won't leave you with regret because you'll know you honored yourself.
You'll know you acted with integrity.
You know you didn't abandon yourself.
For the comfort or approval.
So here's a practice before you make a decision.
Ask yourself,
Am I making this choice because I'm afraid of something?
Or because it's actually true for me.
If the answer is fear,
Pause.
Sit with it and feel that fear and then ask,
What would I do if I wasn't afraid?
That answer,
That is your truth.
That's your truth-based decision.
It might still scare you but it's yours and that makes all the difference.
