For some of us,
Love wasn't experienced simply through being who we were.
It was earned through being helpful,
Reliable,
Easy to lean on,
Or the one who held everything together.
Over time,
Being needed became part of our identity.
And when we stop performing that role.
Feelings of guilt,
Anxiety or even emptiness can quietly appear.
This meditation will ease the pressure of expectations and remind you that by planting a seed.
You can continue to water it by returning to this meditation in times of dependency and stress.
Here's something I wonder.
If you stop solving everyone's problems,
If you stop being the dependable one,
If you stop carrying what was never yours to carry,
Who would you believe you are?
For some of us.
Love didn't always feel freely given.
It felt connected to what we could do.
How helpful we were.
How little trouble we caused.
How much of ourselves we gave away.
So eventually,
Being needed became safer than simply being known.
Today,
We're not trying to change that only to notice it.
Feel the support beneath you.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And a longer breath out.
Let your shoulders soften.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Notice how much effort you've been carrying today,
Not just physically,
But emotionally.
Without needing to name everything,
Simply acknowledge it's been a lot.
For these next few minutes,
Nothing needs fixing.
No one needs anything from you.
No expectations.
No responsibilities.
Just this moment.
Imagine setting down every role you carry.
The helper,
The provider,
The listener,
The fixer,
The strong one.
One by one,
Place them gently beside you.
Knows what remains.
Maybe there's relief,
Maybe discomfort,
Maybe an urge to pick them back up.
Simply notice.
Ask yourself quietly,
Who am I,
When nobody needs anything from me?
You don't need an answer,
Only curiosity.
Perhaps there's a younger part of you.
Who learned that being useful meant being safe,
Who discovered that helping created closeness,
That achieving created attention,
That carrying everyone else's needs meant there was less chance of being left behind.
If that part of you is here,
See if you can simply acknowledge them,
Not to change them,
Not to convince them,
Just to let them know they're no longer carrying this alone.
Now imagine someone sitting beside you.
Someone whose presence feels deeply safe.
Someone who asks nothing of you,
Nothing to achieve,
Nothing to prove,
Nothing to give.
They simply remain as though your presence is already enough.
Notice what happens inside your body.
Pause 8.
Maybe part of you doesn't believe it.
That's okay.
You don't have to force yourself.
Simply allow the possibility that your worth has never depended on your usefulness.
You were valuable before you learned to perform,
Before you learned to earn love,
Before you became everyone's safe place.
And you're still valuable here now.
Doing absolutely nothing.
Take another slow breath in.
And slowly breathe out.
Notice how your body feels,
Perhaps only 1% softer.
1% lighter,
1% less responsible.
Sometimes healing isn't dramatic,
Sometimes it's simply allowing yourself to rest without apologising for it.
One final breath in.
And out.
As you continue with your day,
See if you can remember this.
Your value isn't measured by how much you carry,
Or how much you produce,
Or how indispensable you become.
Your worth has never been something you had to earn.
It's something you've always had.
