There's a feeling some men carry around without ever naming it.
It's not loud,
It doesn't always show up as anger or frustration.
It shows up as a quiet hum in the background,
A sense that everyone else is further ahead,
That time is moving too fast,
That somehow you missed something.
If that feeling is familiar,
This is for you.
Find somewhere comfortable.
Sit down.
Let your hands rest.
You don't need to do anything right now except be here.
Let's start simple.
Take a breath in through your nose and let it out slowly through your mouth.
Again,
Breathe in and out.
Feel the weight of your body,
Where you're sitting,
The floor beneath your feet,
The surface behind your back.
You're here,
You're present.
That's enough for right now.
One more breath in and out.
Good.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your jaw unclench.
You don't need to hold anything tightly right now.
Now,
I want you to notice something,
That feeling of being behind.
Don't push it away.
Don't try to logic your way out of it.
Just let it be there for a second.
Where do you feel it in your body?
Is it in your chest?
Your stomach?
Maybe a tightness in your throat?
Just notice where it lives.
You don't need to change it.
You don't need to fix it right now.
Just feel where it is.
Here's what I want you to know.
That feeling is not a sign that something is wrong with you.
It's a signal and we're going to look at it together.
That feeling of being behind.
It doesn't usually come from nowhere.
It comes from comparison.
Someone your age just got promoted.
Someone bought a house.
Someone seems to have it all together and something in you looks at that and quietly measures yourself against it.
Notice that.
Not with judgment,
Just with awareness.
Ask yourself honestly,
Whose timeline am I measuring myself against right now?
Is it someone from your past?
A version of yourself you thought you'd be by now?
Something you absorbed from watching other people's lives?
Here's what's true.
Comparison doesn't actually tell you where you are.
It only tells you where you aren't.
And it never gives you the full picture.
You're seeing someone else's highlight,
Their outcome.
Not their 3am doubts,
Not the years of uncertainty they moved through.
Just stay with that for a moment.
Now,
I want you to ask yourself a different question.
Not how far behind am I?
What have I actually been moving through?
Think about the last year,
The last few years.
Not what you didn't achieve,
But what you carried,
What you navigated,
What you figured out.
You're not as still as it feels.
Sometimes growth doesn't look like progress.
It looks like holding things together,
Making hard decisions,
Starting again quietly.
That counts.
Take a breath.
There's nothing you need to force right now.
Your path doesn't run on anyone else's schedule.
And the moment you stop measuring your life against someone else's,
Is the moment you start actually living yours.
Take one more slow breath in.
And let it go.
Whenever that feeling of being behind comes back,
And it might,
You know what it is now.
It's not the truth about where you are.
It's just comparison doing what comparison does.
You can notice it,
Set it down,
And come back to your own ground.
You don't need to rush.
You don't need to catch up.
You just need to keep moving at your pace,
In your direction.
Take a moment before you move on and carry that steadiness with you.
And remember this is deep work.
If you feel called,
Reach out.
I'd be honoured to witness your being and becoming.
