Before we go into our meditation take a deep breath.
What we're working with today sits closer to the bone than most.
You don't need to brace for it,
Just arrive with whatever is genuinely present and let the meditation do the rest.
Find somewhere comfortable,
Close your eyes and we'll begin.
Find your position and let your body settle.
No particular way to breathe,
No particular way to sit,
Just arrive where you already are.
There is a feeling most of us carry so consistently that we have stopped noticing it as a feeling at all.
It has become more like the weather,
Like background noise,
A persistent low-level sense that something is missing,
That the current version of things,
Of you,
Is not quite where it needs to be yet.
You know this feeling,
Not the thought about it,
But the feeling itself.
Let your awareness drop out of your head and into your body.
Scan gently,
Not searching for something wrong,
Just noticing what is present.
The chest,
The stomach,
The throat,
The jaw.
Where does that feeling of not quite enough actually live in you?
Find the place and put your attention there.
Not to fix it,
Not to explain it,
Just to be present with it.
Now,
And this is the only thing this meditation asks of you,
Let yourself consider,
Just for a moment,
Where that feeling first came from.
Not a full excavation,
Just a gentle backwards glance.
Was there an environment where enough was never quite declared?
Where the goalposts moved before you reached them?
Where achievement was acknowledged briefly before the next expectation arrived?
You don't need to name names or tell the whole story,
Just acknowledge quietly to yourself that this feeling has a history,
That it did not arrive from nowhere,
That it was learned.
And learned things can be unlearned.
Here is something worth sitting with.
The version of you that exists right now,
Not the future version,
Not the improved version,
Not the version that has finally achieved the thing,
Or resolved the thing,
Or become the thing.
This version,
Right now,
Is already something.
Not perfect,
Not finished,
Not without room to grow.
But not a deficit either.
The feeling that says otherwise is old.
It is not current information.
It is a pattern running on data from a time and place that no longer exists in the way it once did.
And you are allowed to update it.
Let your breath deepen slightly,
Not controlled,
Just allowed.
And as you sit here,
See if you can find,
Even briefly,
Even faintly,
A sense of what it might feel like to be enough right now.
Not permanently fixed,
Not all the problems solved.
Just for this very moment,
In this body,
With this breath.
Enough.
Let that possibility rest in the place where the feeling lives.
Not forced,
Just offered.
And when you're ready,
Let your awareness come back to the room.
The sounds around you,
The weight of your body,
The particular quality of where you are right now.
And take your time with that.
And carry one thing with you as you return.
Not a resolution,
Just a question held lightly.
What would I do differently today,
If I already believed that I was enough?
Welcome back.
I hope you enjoyed that meditation.
And with it,
I'm going to give you a mantra to rest of the day.
I am not a deficit to be corrected.
I am a person in process.
