A heatproof bowl or shell.
This is where you will place the burning herb bundle and catch any ashes.
A feather or a fan.
This is to waft the smoke around yourself and your space.
A lighter or matches.
This is to light the herb bundle.

Once you have gathered these items,
Find a comfortable and quiet place where you can perform this ritual.
You can sit or stand as long as you feel relaxed and focused.
Make sure you have an open window or door nearby so that the smoke can carry away all the negative energy.
Now,
Let's begin with a meditation to prepare ourselves for the smudging.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
Feel the air filling your lungs and expanding your chest.
Then,
Exhale slowly,
Completely,
Letting go of any tension or stress.
Repeat this a few times until you feel calm and centered.
Peace and harmony.
Exhale.
Breathe in abundance and joy.
Now,
Imagine that you are connected to the earth below and the sky above you.
Feel the energy of the earth flowing up through your feet,
Then slowly into your legs,
Then hips,
Then your spine.
Feel the white,
Healing energy of the sky flowing down through your head,
Legs,
And hips.
Feel these two energies meeting and merging in your heart,
Creating a balance and harmony within you.
Now,
Imagine that you are also connected to your most abundant and vibrant future.
This is the future where you have achieved your goals,
Fulfilled your dreams,
And lived your purpose.
Feel the energy of this future flowing into your heart,
Filling you with abundance,
Positivity,
And forward motion.
As you breathe in,
Draw this energy from your heart to every cell of your body.
As you breathe out,
Release any negative,
Blocking energy that has been keeping you from your true potential.
This energy will come out as thick black smoke from your mouth and will be carried away into the sky to burn away into the sun.
Do this three times,
Breathing in all the positive energy from your abundant and vibrant future and breathing out the negative,
Blocked,
Dark energy from your abundant and vibrant future.
Negative,
Blocked,
Dark energy straight into the sun.
Now,
You are ready to smudge yourself and your space.
Open your eyes and light the herb bundle.
Let it burn for a few seconds,
Then blow out the flame.
You should see a steady stream of smoke coming from the bundle.
I will wait for a second or two to let you do this.
Hold the bowl or shell under the bundle to catch any ashes.
Use the feather or fan to waft the smoke around yourself,
Starting from your head and moving slowly down to your feet.
As you do this,
Say a prayer or affirmation that suits your intention.
For example,
You can say,
I cleanse myself of all negative energy,
Thoughts,
Spirits,
People,
And emotions that do not serve me.
I invite in the positive energy and good spirits that support me.
I am protected,
Healed,
And blessed by the Creator and my ancestors.
Make sure you smudge every part of your body,
Including your back,
Your arms,
Your hands,
And your feet.
Pay attention to any areas where you feel pain,
Discomfort,
Or blockage and smudge them more thoroughly.
I'll wait.
When you are done smudging yourself,
You can smudge your space.
Get up.
Walk around your room or house,
Wafting the smoke in every corner,
Every object,
And every doorway.
As you do this,
Say another prayer or affirmation that suits your intention.
For example,
You can say,
I cleanse this space and my life of all negative energy,
Thoughts,
Emotions,
Persons,
And spirits.
I invite in all the positive energy and good spirits that belong here.
I create a sacred and harmonious space for myself and my loved ones.
I am grateful,
Peaceful,
And joyful in this space.
So mote it be.
Make sure you smudge every part of your space,
Including the ceiling,
The floor,
The walls.
Pay attention to any areas where you feel clutter,
Stagnation,
Or disharmony and smudge them more thoroughly.
I'll wait a few moments while you smudge the most important areas.
When you are done smudging your space,
You can end the ritual by thanking the ancestor spirits for purifying you and your space.
You can say something like,
Thank you ancestor spirits for cleansing me and my space of any negative energy and bad spirits.
Thank you for filling me and my space with positive energy and good spirits.
Thank you for guiding me and protecting me on my journey.
