When slowing or silencing the mind seems impossible,
A passage meditation can be an exceptionally effective tool.
While meditation is often thought of as an emptying of the mind,
Meditation can in fact take many forms,
One of which is the contemplation of spiritual or mindful writings.
The passage featured in this meditation is a powerful one that emphasizes individual reflection and a focus on selflessness,
Forgiveness,
And seeking to bring positivity into the world.
The passage is known as the Prayer of St.
Francis.
The instructions I was given to perform this form of meditation are to read each line slowly and then pause to silently contemplate its meaning before moving to the next line.
I encourage you now to find a comfortable spot to sit or lie down and join me as I walk you through this timeless prayer.
Let's begin with three deep breaths to calm the mind,
Relax the body,
And awaken the soul.
Breathe in,
And release,
And breathe in,
And release,
And breathe in,
And release.
Lord,
Make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred,
Let me sow love.
Where there is injury,
Pardon.
Where there is discord,
Union.
Where there is doubt,
Faith.
Where there is despair,
Hope.
Where there is darkness,
Light.
Where there is sadness,
Joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console.
To be understood as to understand.
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
As we conclude this meditation,
I offer this insight into the last line of the prayer.
Dying to self refers to the idea of letting go of selfish desires,
Ego,
Pride,
And worldly attachments.
It implies a surrender of personal ambitions and self-centeredness.
Born to eternal life suggests that through embracing humility,
Service,
And love,
One gains spiritual renewal.
Thank you for joining me on this meditation,
And I look forward to meeting you on the road to happy destiny.
