Good morning and welcome.
I'm Joanna Barrett,
Your guide for this morning's Metta meditation practice.
I'm so grateful you're here to start the day with this meditation.
Metta,
Also known as loving-kindness,
Is a powerful practice for initiating inner peace,
Expanding our capacity for compassion,
And promoting a more harmonious and loving world for all sentient beings on our planet Earth.
I invite you to take a moment to settle in,
Whether you're sitting or lying down.
Allow your body to find a position that feels supportive and easeful.
As you arrive,
Gently invite yourself to slow down.
This is your time to reconnect,
To breathe.
With each breath,
We'll move a little closer to peace,
Harmony,
And love for all beings.
Let's begin our practice.
Bring your attention to yourself,
Perhaps placing a hand over your heart center.
With each phrase,
Silently or aloud,
Repeat after me.
May I be safe and well.
May I be happy and content.
May I be healthy and strong.
May I be peaceful and at ease.
Take a deep breath in and out.
Next,
Bring your attention to someone you love.
Bring them into your heart.
Repeat after me.
May you be safe and well.
May you be happy and content.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
Take another breath in.
Now,
Bring your attention to a neutral person,
Someone you casually know.
Bring them into your heart,
And repeat these phrases after me.
May you be safe and well.
May you be happy and content.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
Take a breath.
Now,
Bring your attention to someone that you have some difficulty with.
If you have resistance,
Just know this it,
And offer yourself compassion as you bring this person into your heart.
Repeat after me.
May you be safe and well.
May you be happy and content.
May you be healthy and strong.
May you be peaceful and at ease.
Take a breath in and release.
And finally,
Bring your attention to all beings everywhere.
Bring them into your heart space as you repeat these phrases after me.
May all beings everywhere be safe and well.
May all beings everywhere be happy and content.
May all beings everywhere be healthy and strong.
May all beings everywhere be peaceful and at ease.
Take a moment to let your practice settle into your body.
Breathe in slowly and deeply.
Breathe out fully and completely.
Several more deep breaths.
And now,
Open your eyes,
Coming back to the space you are in.
Looking around,
Noticing color and form.
Blinking your eyes several times before you move on into your day.
I wish you a peaceful day.
Thank you for your practice.
