Hi everybody,

Today we're going to talk about the magic of the spiral.

Yes,

The spiral.

It's one of the most captivating and also one of the most ancient symbols on earth,

The spiral.

You might spot spirals in seashells,

Galaxies and even the unfurling of a fur.

I know I look for spirals in seashells.

I'm very,

Very attracted to shells and also to the sea.

So that's where I find a lot of my spirals and they fascinate me.

They're very,

Very pretty as well.

But beyond the visual charm of the spiral are also whispered spiritual secrets.

Spiritual secrets that have been there for millennia.

Let's together explore the origins,

Its sacred uses across traditions and how you as an individual can harness its energy in your own life.

What are the origins of the spiral?

It's literally woven into the fabric of nature,

From the whorls on a snail's shell to the mesmerizing patterns of hurricanes viewed from space.

It honestly is nature's most favorite shape.

The ancient humans also took note.

Think about the Neolithic carvings at Newgrange in Ireland.

They feature spirals dating back over 5,

And then the labyrinth floors in the Greek temples,

As well as the prehistoric art,

Rock art that is in Australia,

Also celebrate this beautiful flowing form.

It seems the spiral has always invited us to contemplate growth,

Cycles and also the mystery of expansion.

The spiritual symbolism of the spiral?

Together,

Let's map out the spiritual layers of the spiral.

Firstly,

We have growth and evolution.

The spiral represents personal expansion,

Always weaving outwards and upwards as we as humans learn and transform.

We've got the cycles and rhythms.

Just as the spiral unfolds,

Life moves in seasons.

Birth,

Death,

Rebirth and also everything in between.

The journey inward.

Turning inwards along a spiral path mirrors our dive into meditation,

Introspection and also the heart of being.

And then lastly,

Energy flow.

Many mystics view the spiral as a channel for life force,

Guiding prana,

Qi or kundalini energy through our bodies and also through spaces.

This brings us to the spirals in world religions and traditions.

Across cultures,

The spiral crops up as a conduit to the divine.

Think of the Celtic Trisculae,

Three gracefully turning arms symbolizing mind,

Body and spirit in perpetual motion and balance.

Then we've got the Christian labyrinths.

Medieval cathedrals like Chartres built labyrinth floors as walking meditations,

Always an inward journey towards God.

Hinduism and Kundalini,

The dormant serpent energy at the base of the spine that climbs in a spiral up the chakras,

Awakening our pure consciousness.

Buddhism and mandalas.

While mandalas often radiate circular patterns,

Many also incorporate spiraling motives to depict the path to,

You've guessed it,

Enlightenment.

Then we've got the Maori Kuru.

This New Zealand symbol,

Taken from an unfurling fern,

Embodies new life,

Renewal and also peace.

The African adinkra symbols.

Some West African symbols feature spirals,

Denoting the cycles of life and also the cycles of our destiny.

Spirals and energy.

Are you feeling slightly dizzy just thinking about spirals?

I know right now I am.

That's the point.

In energetic work,

Spirals act like miniature vortexes,

Growing in or radiating out.

Subtle forces.

Healers may spin their hands in spirals over the body to draw stagnant energy in or send healing vibrations outwards.

Feng shui practitioners play spiral objects or patterns in corners to encourage qi to circulate smoothly.

Even in astrology,

Spiral galaxies remind us of the cosmic dance that we are all so beautifully part of.

How do we use spirals today?

You don't need to carve a stone labyrinth to tap into spiral power.

Try these simple soul-soothing practices.

A spiral meditation.

Sit comfortably and trace an imaginary spiral with your fingertips,

Moving inward while breathing deeply,

Then reverse it out.

Journaling the spiral,

Start at the center of a blank page and write your thoughts while circling outwards.

Here,

You literally watch your thoughts and your ideas unfurl.

Artistic expression,

Doodle spirals in your sketchbook or paint a swirling mandala to channel intuition.

Ever since I was a very little girl,

I've doodled spirals.

Maybe I don't even have a sketchbook because now I know I do it in the diary all the time.

They make me feel good,

Doodling spirals.

Yeah,

And my diary looks like a train smash as a result.

Movement rituals flow through yoga poses that twist and spiral the spine,

Such as revolve triangle or twisted chair.

What do they do?

These spirals awake the inner fire within you.

Space clearing,

Place a spiral-shaped crystal or wind chime in the northeast corner to circulate vibrant energy.

Personal jewelry,

Wear a spiral pendant or ring to remind yourself of your ongoing growth,

But also of your resilience.

Spirals speak to the storyteller in all of us,

Inviting reflection on where we've been and also where we've headed.

And they are also the energetic currents that guide our journey.

Which spiral practice are you most drawn to?

Let me know,

Inbox us,

Comment.

And next week together,

We're going to explore how to create your own personal labyrinth for walking meditations.

Until then,

Keep swirling in love and light.

Thank you for listening.

Namaste.

Have a beautiful day.
