"And you can feel lonely even if you have a lot of people around you, because loneliness is about the quality of your connections." - Dr. Vivek Murthy, U.S. Surgeon General There's an epidemic of loneliness in the United States, according to a report issued by the U.S. Surgeon General, and nearly 25% of people worldwide feel lonely, according to a Meta-Gallup survey. The impacts on health - including increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and of developing dementia in older adults - are devastating. So, today, let's take a moment to focus on appreciating the connections we do have. After this savoring, perhaps we'll have the motivation and energy to cultivate even more. As always, I encourage writing these appreciations down to reap the most benefit. The Gratitude Breakfast Club 7-day challenge is a quick podcast-style challenge to help you jump-start or deepen your gratitude practice. Let's keep going with Day 5!

Hello and welcome to the Gratitude Breakfast Club,

A quick morning meetup to help you jumpstart or maintain your gratitude practice.

We'll make it quick because we know you have things to do on this beautiful day.

Good morning beautiful ones and welcome back to the Gratitude Breakfast Club.

I trust you were able to identify and celebrate some beauty yesterday.

One of the things I appreciate most in the world is a good juicy conversation that's honest and that leaves me closer to the person I'm conversing with.

Often these types of conversation involve vulnerability and the sharing of hard truths.

So while I appreciate them,

They're not always easy.

You're trusting someone to be kind with your feelings and not hurt you.

And they are trusting you with the same.

You're also trusting yourself to communicate your needs in a healthy way and for the listener to hear you even if you make a mistake and communicate in a way that's not so healthy.

It's tough.

It's tricky.

That's why when it happens it can feel like magic.

But even when it isn't hard,

True connection always feels like magic to me.

Sometimes you meet someone and just click.

You do the work to maintain the initial spark of that click of course,

But the click is so strong the work feels easy.

Either way,

Easy or hard,

Connection is a true blessing when it occurs.

So today I'd like for you to think about and celebrate two instances of connection.

One that was easy and one that might have required a bit more work.

Take a moment to appreciate what both moments of connection have brought into your life.

With love,

Appreciation,

And gratitude,

This is Karen.
