Good evening.
It's time to get cozy in your bed,
Pull up your blanket and let your body begin to rest.
Tonight we are going on a very special adventure,
A journey with Sophie and her magic carpet,
All the way to a beautiful beach at sunset.
So snuggle in,
Get comfy and let's begin.
It was the end of a long happy day.
Soft golden light filled Sophie's bedroom.
The last rays of the sun were stretching through the window and scattering themselves in warm honey-coloured shapes.
Sophie lay on her bed,
Feeling peaceful and sleepy.
Beside her bed was her favourite soft fluffy rug.
As the light began to fade,
Something wonderful happened.
The rug gave a tiny shimmer and then another.
Sophie blinked,
Sitting up.
Did you just sparkle?
The rug rippled gently,
Almost like it was laughing.
Sophie slipped out of bed and stepped onto it.
The fabric felt soft and warm beneath her feet,
Like sand that had been kissed by the sun.
Are you magic?
She whispered.
The rug gave a joyful flutter and suddenly it began to rise.
Slowly,
Carefully,
It lifted Sophie up towards the window,
Glowing softly in the golden light of the evening.
Where shall we go tonight?
The rug asked.
Sophie lay down carefully and whispered,
Let's go to the beach.
The rug twinkled and with a swirl of colour and a rush of warm air,
They soared into the sky.
The air was cool and sweet as the magic carpet glided higher and higher.
Below them,
The world shimmered.
Rivers glinting like ribbons of glass,
Fields bathed in gold and the forest tops brushed by the last light of day.
Soon,
Sophie smelled the ocean,
Salty,
Fresh and full of life.
The carpet ditched lower,
Floating towards the beach.
From where she lay,
Sophie could see everything.
The waves rolling in and out,
Soft shine of shells and tiny crabs scurrying playfully across the beach.
The ocean shimmered with colours,
Pink,
Gold and lilac from the setting sun.
Fish flickered beneath the surface like tiny sparks of light.
A dolphin leapt joyfully through the water,
Its splash sparkling in the sunset glow.
Seabirds drifted lazily overhead,
Their wings glowing white in the fading light.
The air smelled of salt and warm sand.
Sophie rested quietly on her carpet,
Watching the beach and the beautiful creatures on it move gently below her.
She listened to the ocean's rhythm,
In and out,
Just like her own calm breathing.
She didn't need to move at all.
The world came to her,
Full of colour and sound and peace.
As the sun slipped lower,
The carpet turned slowly in the air,
So Sophie could watch the sky turn deep orange,
Then purple,
Then soft blue as the first stars appeared.
The evening was still and quiet now.
Sophie yawned softly,
Feeling warm and safe.
The carpet fluttered its edges and they began the gentle flight back home.
Now it's time to rest.
Let's do some belly breaths like Sophie.
Before she closes her eyes,
Sophie placed her hands over her tummy and took a long deep breath in.
Her belly rose like a gentle wave and then she breathed out slowly,
Like the wave drifting back to shore.
In and out,
Each breath made her feel heavier,
Softer,
Calmer.
The carpet glided quietly through the deep blue sky.
The moon rose above them,
Round and kind,
Lighting the way back to Sophie's window.
The carpet floated softly into Sophie's room and placed her gently in her bed before settling itself back on the floor beside Sophie's bed.
The carpet gave one last shimmer,
A tiny flicker of golden light,
As if it was whispering goodnight.
Goodnight,
Magic carpet,
Sophie murmured.
As she drifted into dreams,
She could still hear the gentle sound of the sea.
Goodnight,
My friend.
