If trying to slow down and "be calm" has ever left you feeling more anxious instead of less, please know there is nothing wrong with you. Somatic and nervous system work invites us to slow down and get curious about what is happening inside. For a body that has lived in high anxiety, activation, or trauma, that can feel genuinely activating. That's because staying alert is what once kept you safe. This is common enough to have a name: relaxation-induced anxiety. In this short video, I talk about why that happens, and why the answer is not to force yourself to relax. We go slowly, at a pace your nervous system can tolerate, so calm has a chance to integrate bit by bit, until it is not so scary. If this is you, you might find my practice 'Finding Safe Enough' In Your Nervous System helpful. *Please note: This video discusses trauma and anxiety. It is intended for educational purposes and does not replace professional medical or psychological care.* With Care, Katie
